Monday, November 7, 2011. Harpers Ferry and the October 2011 Snowstorm. I did a hike up the north face of the mountains surrounding Harpers Ferry the day after the big October snowstorm. The combination of snow and trees with leaves was beautiful. The damage to the trees and the trail was extensive though - the snow stuck to the leafy trees and brought many of them down. Can you spot the trail? It runs off to the left half way up the picture. You can see video on these YouTube links ( #1.

Pictures from a day trip I took to Tiburon, CA. Tiburon is on the far side of the bay from San Francisco proper. Looking down towards the Bay, with the eastern (? Side of Angel island in the background. A better view of Tiburon proper. The Golden Gate Bridge can be seen in the background (easier to see if you click the link).

Sunday, April 25, 2010. Here are a few pictures looking out from the Raven Rocks/Crescent Rock cliffs. This is about 3 miles north of Route 7 and 17 miles south of Harper's Ferry. The first view is looking south from the top of the cliffs. The Shenandoah River runs between the hills in the distance, and at night you can see the lights from Winchester 20-30 miles away. It is not unusual to find climbers on the rocks when the weather is good. This is looking North along part of the cliff face.

I had two great snow trips up to Maryland Heights. This winter. The first one was December 5th. It started snowing as I parked the car at the train station. Monday, December 29, 2008. Maryland - C&O canal. A few days ago I did my first walk along following the Appalachian Trail from Harper's Ferry into Maryland. I only had a few hours to burn so I only had time to follow the trail along the remainder of the C&O canal until it turned up into the hills. The trail is wide gravel and very flat. The views are nice, as the trail runs between the Potomac and the C&O canal. Past the canal is a functioning set of railroad tracks. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Solstice Canyon once was a ranch, but the area burned out in 1982, and the family sold or donated it to the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy.
