Brass, Money...and other delights

Tuesday, April 22, 2008. I was on the radio today for a show called "Grumpy Old Grad Students," where these two grad students asked me what it was like to be a trumpet major. It will eventually be streamed, with all my frivolous banter,. One question they asked me was what a trumpet player can do to make money. I said symphonies, small little pick-up brass gigs, ceremonial music, church music, funk/rock bands, jazz, solo touring recitals. (just kidding about that last one). Well, I am just as annoyed as ...

Brass, Money...and other delights: March 2008

http://remembertheseventies.blogspot.com/2008_03_01_archive.html

Sunday, March 30, 2008. Full "Birth of Third Stream" Credits. Posted by Peter G. Birth of the Third Stream- has anyone heard this? There is a track "Sea Lady," that while it features an opening sax solo really typifies a rich brass sound. But I wanted to call your attention to this album, that I've never heard but have wanted to. Perhaps prof. Manning, being from Boston, has a line on it? It's a Gunther Schuller/Miles Davis/Dmitri Mitropolous (whoa! Collaboration entitled "The Birth of the Third Stream".

Brass, Money...and other delights: Second thought about Tomasi fanfares...

http://remembertheseventies.blogspot.com/2008/04/second-thought-about-tomasi-fanfares.html

Tuesday, April 8, 2008. Second thought about Tomasi fanfares. So, it's a Don Juan story? Then perhaps the horrifically difficult horn parts could be a nod to Strauss. I mean, how hard is. Don Juan's horn writing? I'm going to go out on a limb and make a suggestion that might rankle Art. Just throwing that out there. Posted by Peter G. To answer your question about the horn parts in Don Juan; they are difficult, but as far as Strauss is concerned, it is easier than his other stuff. April 9, 2008 at 7:39 AM.

http://remembertheseventies.blogspot.com/2008_02_01_archive.html

Remember These Lives Remember!

Everyone Has a Story. Everyone Has a Story. Some years ago I was required to create a website for a class project. Having just received a box of letters that my grandfather wrote home while serving in the military in World War I, I decided to create a memorial website for him. A year or so ago I took my son to see the graves of my Father’s aunt and uncle. Neither of them ever married. Aunt Mary, I think, lived a full life but her brother never recovered from his service in World War I. In the remembering...
