ON THE GRAPEVINE

Thursday, April 12, 2018. A Trip to Melbourne / Getting There. It was an early morning departure as we headed up over the Great Dividing Range, skirting the nation's capital Canberra, towards Yass to meet up with the Hume Highway (M31) which is the main inland route from Sydney to Melbourne. But we were taking things easy this trip so our destination was Albury, just over half way. But it has so many tributaries that occasionally it gets its revenge and floods well downstream. It's an interesting story.

ON THE GRAPEVINE: July 2015

http://onthegrapevine.blogspot.com/2015_07_01_archive.html

Monday, July 27, 2015. Australian Vintage 2015 Report. The Winemakers' Federation of Australia has released its 2015 Vintage report. The 2015 Australian grape crush is 1.67 million tonnes, just a 0.4% increase from last year’s crush of 1.66 million tonnes. This figure is just below the 8-year average of 1.70 million tonnes. The slight increase in overall crush is attributable to Riverina’s increase in yields, offset by lower yields in Murray Darling and most cooler temperate regions. ACT, Queensland and ...

ON THE GRAPEVINE: Dan the Man

http://onthegrapevine.blogspot.com/2015/07/dan-man.html

Thursday, July 02, 2015. Living in a rural area limits the ability to purchase a wide range of good wine locally. The supermarket wine shops and those attached to the pubs have a limited and pretty much a run of the mill range. So we usually source our wine during our trips away or order it on line from specific wineries or specialist wine shops. One of the latter is Dan Murphy's. They belong to the Woolworths chain of supermarkets and have a huge selection from around the world at very competitive prices.

ON THE GRAPEVINE: Book Reviews / July 2015

http://onthegrapevine.blogspot.com/2015/07/book-reviews-july-2015.html

Thursday, July 16, 2015. Book Reviews / July 2015. Every now and again I trawl through Amazon's free Kindle book listings. It can take some time selecting what may be of interest and can be a hit and miss affair. Seeing we were going to spend many hours in planes in June and, needing some lightweight reading distraction, I went through the exercise. Below are some of the results of the search. Normally I am not 'into' murder mysteries but Rosemary for Remembrance. Came with lots of positive feedback.

ON THE GRAPEVINE: April 2015

http://onthegrapevine.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html

Saturday, April 25, 2015. On this day, at dawn, one hundred years ago a combined force of 20,000 Australian and New Zealand infantry began landing on a beach (now known as ANZAC Cove) on the Gallipoli Peninsula, Turkey. They were part of an allied invasion force under British command charged with the task of securing the Dardanelle Straits to allow a naval force to take Constantinople (Instanbul). This strategy was devised to shorten World War I which was already stalling on fields of Western Europe.

ON THE GRAPEVINE: Another Trip to Canberra

http://onthegrapevine.blogspot.com/2015/08/another-trip-to-canberra.html

Sunday, August 09, 2015. Another Trip to Canberra. Early morning start with the temperature down around 0°C which is very low, even in winter, for our part of the world. The drive heads west from Batemans Bay along the Kings Highway up over the Clyde Mountain pass, through Braidwood and Bungendore and onto the capital. For a look at the road check out this YouTube video. Of the descent (speeded up to 40km in 7 minutes). Had suffered the same fate. The co driver has more show quilt pictures on her blog.

Coloring Outside the Lines. Laquo; Eye Candy. Two baby quilts finished. August 10, 2015 by KrisR. This last weekend we had three Buddhist monks in our small community creating a mandala to bring peace. They offered a guided meditation with Buddhist nun Ani Pema each morning and I was fortunate enough to be able to go on Saturday. After the guided meditation, the 3 monks did a chanting meditation prior to getting to work on their mandala. Posted in Totally unrelated to quilting. What gorgeous work. It...

Coloring Outside the Lines. Laquo; Buddhist monks. Two baby quilts finished. August 12, 2015 by KrisR. Two new family members are scheduled to arrive later this year. I’m ready. The batik one is made from left over log cabin blocks plus the scrap vortex blocks made using a *free* tutorial by CrazyMomQuilts. As you can see, I quilted it with FMQ swirls. Love that pattern almost as much as I love pebbles. The blue one is a pattern by Bonnie Hunter called Dancing Nine Patch. Class I really enjoy straight li...

Our Life in Guantanamo Bay: June 2012

http://lifeingtmobay.blogspot.com/2012_06_01_archive.html

Our Life in Guantanamo Bay. Monday, June 11, 2012. Orders, pack out, done! OK so I'm moving from GTMO. I'm ready. Mentally and spiritually ready. WHY if I loved it here so much, am I so ready? Well I have a few reasons - #1 my college kids. Moving means I get to be closer to them. Need I say more? Leave your house doors unlocked. Leave the keys in the car. Go diving, go to work, go home and eat what you caught diving all in one day- cost $0.00. Don't pay a dime to see a movie - yes we get good movies here.

On the Grand Tour: My Summer in Italy

On the Grand Tour: My Summer in Italy. Friday, August 20, 2010. Back in America, and off to a wedding! Yesterday afternoon, I arrived home in Newark, NJ after a very smooth day of traveling, and today I'm off again to California for Jesse and Carla's wedding! I probably won't have the internet long enough to write a blog post while I'm out there (I get home on Tuesday night), so when I get back, I'll post some Italy wrap-ups and figure out the fate of this blog.
