Occasional Thoughts and Other Posts from a UCC Pastor. Wednesday, April 18, 2012. From the UCC Network: 04/18/2012 "Endangered Blank Spaces". If you refrain from trampling the sabbath, from pursuing your own interests on my holy day… if you honor it, not going your own ways, serving your own interests, or pursuing your own affairs, then you shall take delight in the Lord.". Reflection by Martin B. Copenhaver. From a recent article in. The New York Times. Add this to the endangered list: blank spaces.".

Occasional Thoughts and Other Posts from a UCC Pastor. Wednesday, February 29, 2012. From the UCC Network: 02/29/2012 "Leap". And on the seventh day God finished the work that he had done, and he rested on the seventh day from all the work that he had done…These are the generations of the heavens and the earth when they were created.". Reflection by Quinn G. Caldwell. They say every Sunday is that Eighth Day all over again. To observe the Sabbath in worship and prayer is to participate in the ultimat...

Occasional Thoughts and Other Posts from a UCC Pastor. Tuesday, February 28, 2012. From the UCC Network: 02/28/2012 "Less Boasting". Your boasting is not a good thing. Do you not know that a little yeast leavens the whole batch of dough? Reflection by Donna Schaper. Karl Jung says we sneak our biography into just about everything we say. O God, understand how much we want to be seen and known. And then lead us to a good batch of dough and let us sprinkle our yeast upon it. Amen. Links to this post. Subsc...

Occasional Thoughts and Other Posts from a UCC Pastor. Sunday, April 8, 2012. From the UCC Network: 04/08/2012 "Easter! A Really New Day". A Really New Day. Excerpt from Mark 16:1-8. And very early on the first day of the week, when the sun had risen, they went to the tomb.". Reflection by Talitha Arnold. The sun came up that day. Did they go before dawn or after daybreak? One man or two who greeted them? Agree the sun came up that first Easter. One could argue a Sunrise Service makes no sense. I remembe...

Meandering the Blue Highways
Meandering the Blue Highways. Friday, October 21, 2016. Southwest, Here We Come. Natural Bridge, Bryce Canyon National Park. First stop: Zion National Park, where we thought we would spend a day or two. Upon entering the park and seeing the full parking lots, lines at the bus stops, and full campsites, we quickly reevaluated our decision. Cedar Breaks National Monument. Brrrr! On our spring trip, the aspen were just leafing out; now they were changing colors. Slowly moving through hundreds of these white...

June 8, 2013. Yesterday was Jim’s and my 16th anniversary and it was a fabulous day, made more so by its contrast to one year ago. Last year. On June 7th, Jim was in all-day end-of-year meetings and I was up to my eyebrows in packing. Our closing on our Virginia house was just 6 days away and we weren’t even close to being packed up. It didn’t disappoint. We are all still in love with it. All in all a perfect celebration of 16 years of marriage. Sunday night, we’re going out just the two of us ...Everyon...

Living on a lake and thinking like Thoreau. Monday, April 21, 2008. Bringing the new website online has kept me busy. I probably have time to post in both places but my incurable case of procrastination hasn't allowed that. I will do a little cut and paste here . just to keep WaldenPond active. I spent the weekend honing my action photography skills. The Llano Crawfish Festival is a local event. One of the highlights is a. Least I could settle for was a position by the fence. Do you want some goldfish? 8221; And he reached into his pocket. Maybe the Bible’s stories are alive all around us, and it’s our job to find ways to tell the old, old stories in beautiful new ways. Wednesday, December 30, 2009. Two Visits, Including Christmas. Dec 19, Matt and I went to visit Nathan and his family for our Christmas visit. Holy, crazy busy household given Nathan's sisters are now 2 and a half and he's almost 6. Remember I have an empty nest now with Matt off at college. For a short time, it just seemed like too much going on for me! I gave Nathan two playdoh sets. The first one he opened, "Oh no, not again! I asked him what was wrong? Sunday, December 13, 2009.
