Ryan's Weather Discussion: First week and thoughts about week 2
http://msushelfcloud.blogspot.com/2009/10/first-week-and-thoughts-about-week-2.html
Saturday, October 3, 2009. First week and thoughts about week 2. Charleston has been a rather dull city so far. The only real challenge was the low Tuesday night because it ended up being a midnight low and the winds.which didn't pan out as high as I had hoped on Friday. Temperatures seemed to follow the 850 mb temperature rules and were very close to MOS, with both the NAM and GFS being very accurate. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Create your own visitor map! Ryan's Weather Discussion: August 2008
http://msushelfcloud.blogspot.com/2008_08_01_archive.html
Sunday, August 31, 2008. The water vapor shows it clearly, the eyewall has closed off now and intensification could become much more rapid. If this trend holds up we could see an eye visible on satellite within 6 hours, just before Gustav makes landfall in southeast/central Louisiana. The green circle indicates the center of circulation of Gustav. Gustav Shows Its Eye. Not on satellite, but on radar! 9544 mb and now 952.6 mb. The Hurricane Hunters have found lowest pressure of 957 mb. This confirms t...

Ryan's Weather Discussion: June 2009

Tuesday, June 30, 2009. It always feels nice when the SPC. Changes their forecast to your own forecast.and that is what happened last night. I am sure the SPC. Knew the possibility of an MCS. Was there, but they didn't want to go out on a limb and forecast a slight risk for a certain location (which would likely have been further south 3 days out) when the actual location of the event might have been somewhere else. At this point though, everything seems to be in line for a decent MCS. Develops in a cert...

Ryan's Weather Discussion: August 2009
http://msushelfcloud.blogspot.com/2009_08_01_archive.html
Monday, August 31, 2009. Now as for the Pacific, Major Hurricane Jimena is moving north-northwest towards the Baha and is now forecast by the NHC to make landfall a little north of Cabo. This would bring the right side of the storm into the Cabo area, which tends to be the strongest side (more wind, rain, and tornadoes). Not good for the beach resorts! Saturday, August 29, 2009. Danny Boy Is No More. Can enter the mix in this area, a system can develop. Often these system then pull out towards the no...

Ryan's Weather Discussion: June 2008
http://msushelfcloud.blogspot.com/2008_06_01_archive.html
Monday, June 30, 2008. Verification for Philip, SD. My morning and day before forecasts: 83F/83F, no rainfall. Reason for error: Used 700 mb temps and MOS, should have used 850 mb temps. Monday June 30th low temperature:. My forecast: 51F, no rainfall. Monday, June 30th: Forecast. The western United States are in the middle of an upper level ridge, with the Dakotas in the entrance. Region, resulting in northerly flow at the 500 hPa. Level At 850 hPa. This again would support using 850 mb. Temp will be 23...

Ryan's Weather Discussion: Week 2 After Thoughts and Week 3
http://msushelfcloud.blogspot.com/2009/10/week-2-after-thoughts-and-week-3.html
Friday, October 9, 2009. Week 2 After Thoughts and Week 3. Wow, well I was totally wrong about this week. Each system that tried to pull out towards the east lost its energy and dried up, leading to a completely dry week! It did rain Monday, but that wasn't a forecast day so it doesn't count. The GFS. Was way too wet in the long term last weekend! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Create your own visitor map! View my complete profile. Justyn Jackson's Weather Blog. The Long Distance Chase Team.

Ryan's Weather Discussion: September 2009
http://msushelfcloud.blogspot.com/2009_09_01_archive.html
Tuesday, September 29, 2009. Day 1 and 2. So yesterday I decided it was best to go a little below MOS Guidance (80F/80F,59F/58F) due to some cold 850 mb temperatures and MOS having difficulty with cold fronts and often going too warm. We will see how that works out, but as for now its ok. I don't see it reaching 80 today. Sunday, September 27, 2009. Actual numbers for Sunday:. Low Saturday night: 72. Max sustained winds: 24 mph, 21 knots. 850 mb temps Sunday: 15C. HIGH Monday: 90 Winds 14 knots. LOW Mond...

Ryan's Weather Discussion: November 2008
http://msushelfcloud.blogspot.com/2008_11_01_archive.html
Tuesday, November 4, 2008. It looks like there really isn't too much to add from my last blog post. The snow threat has increased substantially with all of the thickness values now turning over to all snow. The soundings in South Dakota look very promising for snow as well, along with momentum transfer of up to 60 knots of winds! What does this mean? Sunday, November 2, 2008. Also, watch out along the eastern coast as the models are now unanimously producing a substantial hybrid system that moves along t...
