Redbeard's Ravings: August 2013
http://redbeardsravings.blogspot.com/2013_08_01_archive.html
Saturday, August 3, 2013. Have you ever made a dungeon and then ran it months or years later and not made any sense of your notes? Not that you couldn’t read them, but you just didn’t have ANY CLUE as to what you were going on about. Once your memory goes, forget it. This happens to me more lately. Not just because I’m getting to be an old fart, or that I design (and run) while a bit soused, but because I give my players free reign to go where they want. That’s by design. They are indeed very enigmatic.

Redbeard's Ravings: Catastrophe of the Day: Plague Survivor
http://redbeardsravings.blogspot.com/2015/03/catastrophe-of-day-plague-survivor.html
Wednesday, March 4, 2015. Catastrophe of the Day: Plague Survivor. Today's Catastrophe. Catastrophes are obligatory character choices. That involve rolling on tables like the one below. I'm looking for critiques or brilliance that's evaded me before I subject them upon my. Er, players. This one is tentatively "balanced" to have roughly a 30% chance of a good, bad or mixed result. I've got spreadsheet formulas to compute odds of different results for tables, because that's how I roll. (get it? Not only mu...

Redbeard's Ravings: February 2013
http://redbeardsravings.blogspot.com/2013_02_01_archive.html
Saturday, February 23, 2013. A Traveller Campaign: DM ADD. The sandbox co-DMed Castles and Crusades game continues. With school I'm not there every week, but the game goes on. I'm also playing in a bi-weekly Hackmaster game, thankfully not DMing on that one. But a buddy bugged me about running a Traveller game. What the hell? Why would he do that to me? Not that I've never done that to him (twice, for the record). But then I couldn't get it out of my head until I'd written 3 pages on it. Red numbers on t...

GROGNARDIA: REVIEW: Old School Encounters Reference
http://grognardia.blogspot.com/2009/05/review-old-school-encounters-reference.html
The Excellent Travelling Volume. Open Game License (OGL). Monday, May 11, 2009. REVIEW: Old School Encounters Reference. In my recent review. I lamented the fact that there were so few products in print that were of utility equal to that of Judges Guild's Ready Ref Sheet. S In saying so I reveal the poor state of my memory, because I should have remembered Scot "Kellri" Hoover. S fourth installment in his "Classic Dungeon Designer Notebook" series, Old School Encounters Reference. Is useful not just for ...

Chainmail Bikini: Know Your Terrain Part I: Plains
http://chainmail-bikini.blogspot.com/2011/09/know-your-terrain-part-i-plains.html
Old School Dungeons and Dragons in a Swords and Sorcery setting. Monday, September 5, 2011. Know Your Terrain Part I: Plains. My setting design has reached the stage where I need to begin creating wilderness encounter tables for the various zones I have created. Why reinvent the wheel? I did some quick internet searching and discovered a great review by Jim M. over at Grognardia. Where he sings the praises of a handy and crunchy 160-page "Old School Encounters Reference". By Scot "Kellri" Hoover. Similar...

Old School Dungeons and Dragons in a Swords and Sorcery setting. Thursday, September 22, 2011. Quick and Dirty Swords and Sorcery Words. Use the intertubes. trust their awesomeness. Google Translate was a fantastic tool when I was living in Basel and my Deutsch was not very good. Now I use it translate "common" Swords and Sorcery words into Swahili equivalents to generate a pool of themed words I can use for place names, etc. Links to this post. Tuesday, September 13, 2011. One of these days I will launch.
