Boston Food Garden: April 2009
http://bostonfoodgarden.blogspot.com/2009_04_01_archive.html
Adventures in fruit and vegetable gardening in Boston, Massachusetts. Tuesday, April 28, 2009. The bibb lettuce started from seed directly in the garden are doing well at 3 weeks. The bibb lettuce I started in pots in mid-March and transplanted are not doing well. These are snap peas at about 3 weeks. Was started April 5th. Strawberries mulched with pine needles. These strawberries have been mulched with pine needles to lower the pH of the soil. Temperatures have been very warm - it's been in the low 90s...
Boston Food Garden: March 2011
http://bostonfoodgarden.blogspot.com/2011_03_01_archive.html
Adventures in fruit and vegetable gardening in Boston, Massachusetts. Sunday, March 27, 2011. After mixing in about 2 yards of compost, we finally get some spring seeds started. Went in the ground today. I've laid newspaper down on top of the seeds to keep the hungry birds at bay. I swear there was an entire flock of starlings sitting in the hedgerow waiting for me to finish planting so they could swoop in and eat them up. Monday, March 21, 2011. Ah, New England. Boston Food Garden: May 2009
http://bostonfoodgarden.blogspot.com/2009_05_01_archive.html
Adventures in fruit and vegetable gardening in Boston, Massachusetts. Wednesday, May 27, 2009. The snap peas are really hitting their stride. They've grown nearly 12" in the last 8 days. While the ones that I started inside 2 weeks earlier are not bigger than the peas that were seeded directly in the garden, they are starting to flower already. Here they are - 7 weeks after direct sowing. Tuesday, May 26, 2009. Carrots at 7 weeks. How much does a vegetable garden cost? Sunday, May 24, 2009. Vegetables ne...
Boston Food Garden: Growing parsnips
http://bostonfoodgarden.blogspot.com/2011/06/growing-parsnips.html
Adventures in fruit and vegetable gardening in Boston, Massachusetts. Sunday, June 26, 2011. This wee parsnip has been in the ground almost two months. Rumor has it that these little babies can stay in the ground through the first frost. I wouldn't know because I've never gotten anything to grow from parsnip seed for the past two years of trying.
