The usual restriction on camping have been circumvented by the owner of the local Bar / Restaurant who has an "arrangement" with the local authorities! Access: No problem to access. The Circle X Ranch Campground at the trailhead of the Grotto Trail has bathroom facilities, grills and tables and good flat areas for pitching your tent. There are also bear safe containers for waste. The spot is picturesque but the sites are very close together and you lose that wilderness feel. It is nice that you can drive down and park right next to the sites. A good car camping locale. Re: Circle X Ranch Campground.

There are no facilities here but a very cheap motor home service point is available 2Km away in the village, (St. Vito lo Capo). A fresh bread van calls in a morning. Tent campers go on the beach or grassy area next to the car parking area. There is nothing around here to make a noise other than the sea, Skylarks and other campers!

It was a tough trip to say the least so it's hard to give a real unbiased rating for the campsite. I'll stick with a 3-star, but take that with a grain of salt. The highlight of our trip were the two or three, 6-8 long Hickory Horned Devil caterpillars we came across. None of us had ever seen anything like it.

Sand is soft only in some spots but you can manage even with 2x drive, sometimes you can see whales, usually a few other vehicles and tents in this area. Good spot for free beach camping.
