Roadside Park: July 2013
http://roadsidepark.blogspot.com/2013_07_01_archive.html
Roadside Thoughts of an Art Teacher in Iowa. Tuesday, July 30, 2013. We are currently on our way home on I-90 with 700 miles to go on it. We stayed last night in Buffalo, Wyoming with the Bighorn Mountains in the distance. Antelope are on the nearby hills basking in the morning sun. We got going early this morning because we know we will lose an hour somewhere today. Links to this post. Friday, July 26, 2013. Links to this post. Thursday, July 25, 2013. Links to this post. Roadside Park: January 2011
http://roadsidepark.blogspot.com/2011_01_01_archive.html
Roadside Thoughts of an Art Teacher in Iowa. Thursday, January 27, 2011. They are so quiet. Our back yard goes back quite a ways until the tree line which separates us from our neighbors. It has been a private space for the 25 years I have lived here. Then suddenly in a matter of two winters the deer have silently eaten the bottom two yards of the evergreens and there are my neighbors! I am thinking of planting some fast growing plant but Frank has not given me the ok yet. What about bamboo? Frank and I ...

Ovaltine Cocktail: March 2008
http://ovaltinecocktail.blogspot.com/2008_03_01_archive.html
Chocolate on the Rocks. Sunday, March 23, 2008. Snow on Easter Afternoon. Yesterday, I went to Iowa City with some friends. The six of us squeezed into a 5-seater, and began our journey by visiting Cedar Rapid's CSPS, which currently was showing four of Robert Wilson's Voom portraits. Next weekend, Senate is having Tomasos Pizza. I'm making extra sure my schedule remains open for this. Monday, March 17, 2008. Spring break in Iowa. There's nothing like a week devoid of all the regular distractions to make...

Ovaltine Cocktail: December 2007
http://ovaltinecocktail.blogspot.com/2007_12_01_archive.html
Chocolate on the Rocks. Monday, December 17, 2007. I can’t believe this didn’t occur to me during La Purisima. For those who don’t know, this day celebrates the conception of the Virgin Mary. The night before is known as La Griteria. Or The Shout, something like that. Groups of Nicaraguans visit families with Purisima. Altars set up, sing one of the holiday songs, and receive gifts. The gifts are usually practical, like Tupperware or cups, but you can also get nacatamales. Friday, December 14, 2007.

Ovaltine Cocktail: So lucky
http://ovaltinecocktail.blogspot.com/2008/08/so-lucky.html
Chocolate on the Rocks. Monday, August 25, 2008. By that I mean you, readers. It was a very tough decision, and I was bitter for a while, but I stayed in today. I'm trying to make up for not leaving the apartment by watching the City University New York channel while I frantically try and get prepared for college tomorrow. I don't even have a notebook yet. But I know how to get to Williamsburg from Park Slope! I will need lessons on how to carve up the chicken. But I have found a meat source I ethica...

Ovaltine Cocktail: Back in Grapids
http://ovaltinecocktail.blogspot.com/2008/05/back-in-grapids.html
Chocolate on the Rocks. Wednesday, May 28, 2008. I've got to admit, I like the way home smells. I thought I could still sense pine needles from Christmas, maybe chili powder and ginger (dad's favorite ingredients), definitely the dog's ear medicine, maybe some chlorophyll from mom's plants. who knows what the sum of it is, but it's a good smell. Still, if I keep at this for much longer, I'll risk losing all the neuron connections I am going to need to survive next year. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Ovaltine Cocktail: Mumblings from tomorrow
http://ovaltinecocktail.blogspot.com/2009/02/mumblings-from-tomorrow.html
Chocolate on the Rocks. Tuesday, February 10, 2009. Yeah, I got scatterbrained and couldn't remember my log in or my password. But thanks to science (not really) I got it back. Tip of the hat to technology. It's nearly 1 in the morning and all I want is the printer to work. And it's definitely not. Wag of the finger, technology. Usually this is when I go to bed. But not tonight. Tonight I will defeat the bewildering technological obstacles of the Dows computer lab and it will feel good. Love how you write.

Ovaltine Cocktail: November 2007
http://ovaltinecocktail.blogspot.com/2007_11_01_archive.html
Chocolate on the Rocks. Saturday, November 24, 2007. I went hiking today! Sort of. Here is my day, delivered in numerical order. I shall begin with a quote from Lonely Planet, a so called "credible" guide book. 1 Arose at 5:30 AM in Esteli, Nicaragua. 2 6:45 AM: begin 3 hour bus ride to the town Somoto begins. 4 Rode with sketchy "taxi" man for four blocks, where he stopped to ask two girls where the Reserva is. Upon discovering that he was not ripping me off, and actually had to go somewhere substan...
