Green Science HIP – Computer Science at Earlham

Applied Groups: Green Science HIP. Green Science Group collaborates with Physics, Computer Science and Environmental Science on environmental projects. They have been responsible for a solar array and grid-tie system in Dennis Hall, a modest wind turbine at Miller Farm and the Green Zone, an area in the Dennis Hall lobby where the College's environmental projects are displayed. Applied Groups – Computer Science at Earlham

The Computer Science Department organizes a number of applied CS groups. The primary aim of their projects is to give students an opportunity to apply and extend knowledge gained in the classroom to "real world" software and hardware projects. Students are encouraged, but not required, to participate in one or more of these groups as part of their educational experience while at Earlham. HIP – Computer Science at Earlham

Applied Group : Hardware Interfacing Project. HIP (Hardware Interfacing Project) works on interfacing laboratory equipment to computers. Their work has included a local weather station, installed on the roof of Dennis Hall, providing support for a scientific research project investigating concentration of metals in local water sources, and construction of a TrafficCam to record video and speed data for traffic passing in front of Earlham's main entrance. Applied Group: Data Science. Data Science bridges the gap between the growing amounts of data and computational power and the domain specialists who need to harness them for their teaching and research. The Data Science group works with students and faculty from across the natural sciences, social sciences, and humanities on a variety of problems that have data collection, analysis, and visualization at their core.
