Sunday, March 30, 2008. How I Found the Strong - Notes. Chapter 2 – Summer 1861. Grandpa is Shanks new learning partner. Chapter 3 – Early Fall 1861. Feel like kids are running everything. Tid Smith – soldier’s wife. Frank – “maybe we should listen to what they got to say”. White people can’t stand the heat like they can. Doesn’t feel so young anymore. Chapter 4 – Late Fall 1861. Ma – big with child. Frank is 11 – everyone forgot his birthday. Sheriff comes to get cow. School house turned into hospital.

Friday, March 21, 2008. I just want to say how much I enjoyed last night's class! My favorite thing in the world is children's literature, and I have always loved illustrations. I was just speaking with teacher on my team yesterday about how I do not feel that I incorporate art enough in my room. Monday, March 24, 2008. How I Found the Strong Chapter 1. To pretty for a war. Want him to be a preacher. Only sissies are preachers. 10 yrs. old - Frank Russell. Henry - borther - 14 yrs. old - old enough to be a soldier. 12 yrs old you can be a drummer boy. Skin looks like wet blue paint. Strong is a river. Mississippi, Smith County. Noticed Buck for the first time with all the talk of slavery. Confederate flag - gray uniforms. Grandpa gives Pa his wedding ring. Fired on Fort Sumter.

Saturday, February 23, 2008. The Giver - Chapters 21 - 23. Jonas was forced to flee. Gabriel was to be Released first thing in the morning, before the Ceremony. Left dwelling at night, robbed community of food, stolen Father's bike, taken Gabriel. Transmitted a soothing memory so Gabe would sleep. Jonas had to sleep during the day and ride at night. Transmitted deep, contented exhaustion to Gabe. Search planes looking for them. Have heat sensors so Jonas transmits memories of snow. Hills, hunger, rain.
