And the most wonderful thing happened – a man commented that my big sun hat looked like an old fashioned nun’s headpiece ( cornette). We give people blessed. My beloved St. Catherine Laboure (she of the Miraculous Medal and one of my walking stick saints…) wore a cornette. My dream was to look like a fancy nun on the Camino – black dress, rosary in hand. Dancing Down the Camino. We read about storks in Camino books. But still, the first time we spotted a huge European white stork sitting high on a church steeple we stopped in our tracks and stared. We’ve seen at least 40 storks since then, always on the most prominent points in small villages – usually at the top of a church steeple but often on an abandoned industrial smokestack.
