Is it benefical for students to take Algebra I in eighth grade as an online course compared the available course offering for eighth-grade math? Is taking online algebra in eighth grade beneficial for the students who their schools judge to be ready, as measured by mathematics achievement, courses taken, and credits earned? Spring 2008 obtain school-defined eligible pool of students, recruit online teachers. Summer 2008 train online teachers, conduct random assignment of schools. Fall 2008 implement intervention, conduct classroom observations, collect Spring 2008 seventh-grade state assessment. Winter 2009 conduct classroom observations. Winter 2011 Spring 2011 disseminate results.
