I also occasionally blog at. Friends and family blog at. Sunday, June 24, 2012. Sam and cool kids Simon and Sophie. Two weeks ago, after more than 3 years of tweeting together, Sam and I finally met. Sam wrote about it so well on her blog. But I wanted to note it here too, as it was and will be, I'm sure, the highlight of my year. Twitter and irl friends Brian, Robyn. Friday, June 8, 2012. unschool plus: felted sweater purse and coffee sleeves

http://unschoolplus.blogspot.com/2014/12/felted-sweater-purse-and-coffee-sleeves.html

I also occasionally blog at. Friends and family blog at. Monday, December 8, 2014. Felted sweater purse and coffee sleeves. Years before I had a blog, I made a felted purse. (It was this pattern. Extremely easy to knit in a gorgeous Noro yarn and I'm not kidding, I have never had so many strangers stop me on the street and offer to pay me to knit for them. I always just pointed them to the web page, but it's a testament to the pattern and the yarn.). And the lining is my aunt's old jumpsuit, which had sh...

I also occasionally blog at. Friends and family blog at. Wednesday, September 12, 2012. In September 1987, DH and I took a train to the American Embassy in Tokyo, where a consul performed a quick and simple ceremony. Afterwards we had lunch at the Imperial Hotel. With the two friends who had been our witnesses, then DH and I flew to Sapporo. Thus were we married. In the end we went out for breakfast. Browsed books at the library. And we tried a couple of basic duets. Dinner was miso ramen. Bicycled the p...

I also occasionally blog at. Friends and family blog at. This was not intended to be a how-to blog, but apparently I enjoy sharing the process of making things, just as I enjoy and appreciate learning about others' processes. Sharing knowledge and experience is essential to learning, after all. What would homeschooling be without it? Here are the more explicit how-to posts on unschoolplus:. How to make chocolate-covered frozen bananas. How to make ukulele reindeer antlers. How to make an ukulele santa hat.

http://unschoolplus.blogspot.com/2010/10/homemade-halloween-costumes-iphone.html

I also occasionally blog at. Friends and family blog at. Tuesday, October 26, 2010. Homemade halloween costumes (iPhone). Halloween feels most. Halloweenlike. This year S decided he wanted to be an iPhone. He knew exactly how he was going to make the costume, too, so tore ahead with his project, accepting only minimal help. Apparently in our family 11 is the age at which costuming confidence really takes off. It's for one night. It'll look good enough." And he was right. These were arranged and glued to ...

January 18, 2011. My mother bought me a wonderful little book called Felties. By Nelly Pailloux. It is full of awesome tutorials on how to make 18 different cute little creatures. A Journey Through Knitting Around by EZ. Confession: I completed the Aran coat two weeks ago. Yes, it’s been finished for awhile now. But I have found excuses not to blog about it. I was too busy… it wasn’t blocked… I need buttons. I think I’ve been putting it off because, well, this is the last project. I am at the end. It’s almost finished. I have really enjoyed this project. What a journey of life it has taken me through! Anyways, I’m waxing sentimental on you… so sorry. Now I am on the hunt for some ...

July 31, 2012. Country Life - Week Three. Standing under this rainbow made me feel like I was at the top of the world. One evening, out the kitchen window, we spotted the start of this beautiful rainbow. We all ran out through the mowed maze (Yes! To the top of the hill. We stood there as the full rainbow developed. A double touchdown. We got to see both ends perfectly and felt like we were standing directly under it. It truly was awe inspiring! You can't see that in the city! Utility knives, class etchi...

November 2, 2011. Different than school, because the choice to opt out is always available. This year the kids are involved in 'Aspiring Young Artist Workshop', 'Kids Yoga', 'Geography Club', and 'Stories and Crafts.'. We have a large home educating community (about 500 families) and there are often a lot of clubs, classes and workshops that get put together by various mentors, professionals and parents with passions. He worked on this in his bedroom one day and came out with all the photos meticulously taken on the digital camera. His dad downloaded them to iMovie without editing and this is what was filmed. We tend to head outside everyday for a good chunk of time. Simon is honing his BMX skills. Addressing the envelops to his friends. October 22, 2011. February 28, 2012. The Wand Picks the Wizard. A Harry Potter passion has officially entered the kids lives. Simon is reading the first novel and they have watched the first two movies. Probably their favourite has been listening to the audio books together and spending hours drawing in sunbeams. We are lucky enough to have Dido (my late first husbands father) in our lives, a talented artisan woodworker. He has an amazing workshop, as you can see (and this is only half of it! November 1, 2012. September is always a month where I seem to get caught up in the back to school frenzy that's happening all around us. I have to remember that with homeschooling we don't have to change a thing. We can go on like it's still summer, and keep on enjoying our slow paced life where we can dig into our interests. Sophie catches a toad on one of our nature walks. They learn all aspects of horse partnership. Grooming, saddling, riding, etc. The sketch book has been put to the side more and mor...

May 24, 2012. What Kept Us Busy in April? I sat down one afternoon and did a 5 minute sketch painting and Sophie joined right in. Mine is the top, Sophie's is the bottom. She really enjoyed copying what I was working on and the end result was a more sophisticated piece of work than my own! I love how loose and intuitive her painting is. We were lucky enough to have Baba set up a couple days of Pysanka. They handwrite letters complete with artwork, or they type one out on an old school type writer. Simon ...
