Tri-ing to be Athletic: 11/2/14 - 11/9/14

http://www.tri-ingtobeathletic.com/2014_11_02_archive.html

Going Funny for Money. Saturday, November 8, 2014. Getting to the 2014 Portland Marathon Starting Line, Taper Tantrums and All. Last year I ran the Portland Marathon for the first time. It was a BIG DEAL, and both Erika and Ann Marie ran it with me. It was a perfect first marathon. This year, I decided to sign up again, to see if I could run the race on my own. I do the majority of my training runs solo anyway, other than some long runs. This meant that I had to change my focus. I posted my query to thei...

Tri-ing to be Athletic: Triathlon Taper Madness: it's just as fun as marathon taper madness!

http://www.tri-ingtobeathletic.com/2015/07/triathlon-taper-madness-its-just-as-fun.html

Going Funny for Money. Friday, July 17, 2015. Triathlon Taper Madness: it's just as fun as marathon taper madness! In less than 48 hours I will be competing at Seafair in my first Olympic distance triathlon! I honestly just want that finisher's medal. During a pep talk with Erika tonight she walked me through all the little details, and asked if the race is wetsuit legal. Not wearing a wetsuit is not an option. The wetsuit lets me rest without the pesky risk of drowning. Anyway, packet pickup is tomorrow...

Going Funny for Money. Tuesday, December 2, 2014. Review: Adidas Wearable Tech and miCoach Heart Rate Monitor. Disclaimer: I was provided an Adidas bra and heart rate monitor in exchange for a review. I was not provided additional compensation and all opinions are my own. Back when Emily offered me the chance to try out Oofos (which I'm wearing as I write this), she also asked if I would want to try a sports bra that has a spot for a heart rate monitor. Sensor fibers knit into the fabric. Emily put me in...

Going Funny for Money. Tuesday, November 18, 2014. Portland Marathon 2014: I ran, I saw pirates, I crossed the finish line. If you missed Part One, click here! And I ran the first few miles together. We chatted,. And posed for some cameras. I remembered (again suddenly) that in my rush to get out the door I had forgotten to put anti-chafe cream on the MOST important spot. I hoped that by the time they were offering vaseline it would not be too late. If ya don't know, just ask one of your runner friends.

Going Funny for Money. Sunday, June 14, 2015. An Ode to My Birthday. The Big Four-OH-EM-GEE! My 20s saw college and my wedding,. And now my 40s have appeared. This decade needs to start with flair,. Some lip injections, Botox too. That "health screen" for the older ma'am,. It might not all be bad,. I'll join the awesome gents and ladies,. Plus older athletes need more rest. Here's to the good that lies ahead,. So how many of you have passed the 40 mark? UPCOMING POSTS: SWIMMING DRILLS, RUNNING.

https://thisspartanwill.wordpress.com/2016/08/08/part-5-climbing-a-k-a-the-bike/comment-page-1

My journey to Ironman Mont Tremblant and beyond. Part 5: Climbing (a.k.a. the bike). August 8, 2016. I’m guessing you may be sick of my posts by now! But this is where it gets interesting…or at least less boring maybe? I was so excited getting onto my bike and out on the course, I completely missed the fact that we went right past the Olympic ski jumps! She came up behind me and yelled “Yay Team Coeur”! The road flattened out a bit and then we started the decent into Keene. Rob had warned me about th...

My journey to Ironman Mont Tremblant and beyond. Reflecting on the season. September 19, 2016. Before I get to my blog post, don’t forget that applications are now open to join my amazingly wonderful team of women at Coeur Sports. They’re an incredible company I’ve had the honor of representing the past 2 years and I can’t even explain what that’s meant to me! Here’s the link to the application. 8211; and best of luck (I hope I get asked back for 2017 as well! Welcome to fall, everyone! 8221; in a tone t...

April 19, 2013. Where do you even begin after a 10 month hiatus? I mean, I basically just skipped over writing about an entire season. I guess a quick catch up is in order. I could tell you about the trip to the Croatian coast. And surrounding islands. Perfectly blue waters along a rocky coastline. Reminded me a lot of the Greek islands. Or about that jaunt over to gorgeous Venice. Sunset over the Rialto bridge was breathtaking! I promised myself I'd make it to the Plitvice Lakes National Park. To make a...

Midlife humour and other ramblings. Friday, May 18, 2012. A cloth, a cloth. While I admit that I am not the best person to have around in an emergency my Mom is really the last person you want to have around you when there is an accident. My step brother had a motor cycle accident. There was blood everywhere. My Mom did not rush him to the emergency. In her shocked state she said, “Sit down and eat your dinner, you are late.”. How do you react in an emergency? I am taking part in the Yeah Write challenge.

There were only 6 of us, so it was very informal and not at all intimidating… until… THE POOL! Sweet Jesus, I thought I could swim, but I was so wrong. I wasn't sure we were even going to be able to find the Point in all the fog. If the boats got too far ahead of you, you lost them in the fog, just a little bit creepy. Zack stroked the 2nd Eight again. They came in 3rd in their heat and made it into their final! O( Poor Brock caught one of the biggest crabs I've ever seen. Race ...

My resolution was one race a month of varying distances. so. I ran my first 10K - 6 miles - Yes! I signed up for the Manassas Runway 10K! Key word. RUNWAY! I knew if I was going to try and run that far, I wanted it to be a flat, easy course. There's not much flatter than a runway! Gotta admit, pretty nervous. But I did it! I felt really good about it!

Brenna has taken to fishing like. a fish to water. :o). She started out small. But it looks like there's no stopping her now! The folks she's staying with at her current bat site have a boat and it appears love to go fishing. I think she may give John a run for his money when she comes back for another visit! Tri-ing The Best I Can. Race Results and Recaps. Saturday, January 3, 2015. Hi all. Remember me? You'll have to excuse my lack of posts these last few months but I have been in a hole. A dark and self loathing hole. Meredith, captain of my Swim Bike Mom Ambassador Team, recently wrote about this exact same thing, only she refers to it as her "cave". You can read about it here. Yep, that's exactly where I've been. Besides thoroughly enjoying the holidays that is, I'll just point you to my. Hard course wit...

Triathlon race blog and other insights into the triathlon lifestyle. Monday, May 18, 2015. Cascade Lake Duathlon Race Report. This year I had special motivation to do well. I won my age group last year so I considered myself a defending champion of sorts. Even though I "aged up" this year I still felt like the title was mine to defend. This guy was motoring! Let's just say I was hoping he was over 55! Just as I got to the base of the ridge another guy in my age group passed me! Well now we have a race!

Going Funny for Money. Sunday, August 9, 2015. I am an Olympic (Distance) Triathlete! My recap of the 2015 Seafair triathlon. There's something to be said for making goals. This was me in January of 2014:. However, I gave myself a small caveat that I might wait until 2015 in order to pair it with my big birthday. The transition area was filled with mostly super-fit and experienced triathletes, me, and one guy who was not up to speed on all the finer details of the course. How did that happen? At the time...

* tri-ing *

The true story of training for the triathlon with fibromyalgia. Tuesday, July 21, 2015. It's official. A bit ago, I decided to challenge myself again with the Chicago Triathlon. This time, I would go easy on myself, take on half of what I tackled before, and do the Sprint. I made plans to start training about two weeks ago. I forced myself to get in the pool yesterday. I didn't know how I would. I am honestly surprised I was able to get out of my house and to the gym. I have not swam in almost two years.
