Luke's Travel Blog

Wednesday, May 8, 2013. On his last full day in Japan, Luke had two surprises. First, he got to spend time at Tsukuba University with a Hiragana tutor. Hiragana is one of the two written forms of the Japanese language. You can see the "letters" and hear their sounds here. After all that hard work learning to write, Luke's hosts decided to surprise him with a "western style" meal. Burgers and Ice Cream! Here is Luke and some of his new friends trying to finish a MASSIVE ice cream sundae:. After his time c...

Saturday, May 4, 2013. Lot's of friends and family have asked to know more about Luke's first ever solo trip (to Japan! So we decided it would be easiest to create a blog to share his adventures. We'll do our best to keep you posted on his trip! This all started a few months ago, or actually. come to think of it. many years ago. Five years ago, Eric cashed in his frequent flier miles and sent me, Stefani, and my mom Julie to Japan. It was the first time that I ever had a passport! Flash forward to a few ...

Luke's Travel Blog: Meanwhile, Back at the Ranch

http://travelinglukaloo.blogspot.com/2013/05/meanwhile-back-at-ranch.html

Saturday, May 4, 2013. Meanwhile, Back at the Ranch. The stay-at-home folks were getting a little teensy bit jealous of all of Luke's Japanese fun, so we decided to create a little bit of Japan in Texas for ourselves. First stop, the Japanese market! We had a lot of fun poking around and trying to guess what all the stuff in those bags was. We were particularly intrigued by these little dried fish snacks. The shop lady assured us that they were "like chips, or beer nuts. very good! Every Day Life in Japan.

Luke's Travel Blog: Getting Ready

http://travelinglukaloo.blogspot.com/2013/05/getting-ready.html

Saturday, May 4, 2013. Our Japanese friends are always very generous to us, bringing each of us Japanese treasures when they visit, so one of the things we needed to do before Luke left was to hunt down some small gifts for him to take along. Luke was not going to check his bags, so we needed to avoid things that were big, contained liquid or were easily breakable. While we shopped, Luke also found the shirt that he thought was most appropriate for his journey. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

You can read more about that here. In just over an hour and half he arrived at the Tokyo station to meet Mariko and Suzuki's daughter Asae. And here he is in front of the Tokyo station:. From there they joined Asae's sister Miki and had some lunch. More noodles! It is just breath-taking. You can read more about it here.

http://travelinglukaloo.blogspot.com/2013/05/first-day-in-japan.html

Saturday, May 4, 2013. First Day in Japan. Here's Luke at Mariko and Suzuki san's house, very early on his first day in Japan. He learned right away that we weren't kidding about Japanese breakfast being different from American breakfast. He had noodles to start his day! After that, he headed out to meet some new friends. Mariko and Suzuki san took him to join their employee, Sagara, and his family on an adventure. Here he is with his new friends in front of a Japanese 7-11! Note: the last four images he...
