I added a curved turnout to the track between Santa Margarita and San Luis Obispo in order to extend the siding in SLO to be long enough to hold most trains so I can use it as a passing siding. SP Coast Line

http://trains.pattisonnet.net/MN_layout.htm

The Southern Pacific Coast Line. This was my layout from 2004-2008. It was dismantled when we put our house on the market. Hopefully, the trains will emerge from storage and be back on a new and better Coast Line someday in the not to distant future. Somewhere on the Coast Line. This page has large thumbnails and the files associated with them are very large. Beware if you are using a dial-up connection. This is the latest entry in the layout history pages. Updated 3/3/08. Known errors can be found here.

The Southern Pacific Coast Line 2012-2013 work. This page was written blog style so the newest is at the top. Click here to go to the beginning. To see the Minnesota layout that preceded this one, click here. Finished. Done. The Gaviota scene is finally done. Here are some pictures showing the finished product. This one shows the creek which in the summer doesn't flow hard enough to breach the sand. Gaviota by moonlight. Given the number of people still up this train isn't running on time. It has taken a...

2014 Work

http://trains.pattisonnet.net/2014_work.html

Here are two pictures of the Santa Margarita depot in 1957. I used these pictures (plus a couple more) to create an outline that I then cut our of wood. The back, or street side. And the front, or track side. All four walls up. A bit of interior. This concludes the easy part. If you scroll up and look at the original you can see that the roof line is not going to be easy. The frame for the center of the freight section of the depot. Added to the depot. The floor of the second story added.

There was a German restaurant of that name in Santa Margarita but it was in a different building. The double Quonset hut was, and still is, the Rainbow Hut and and it was a pool hall in those days. The Southern Pacific high fan F3s had gone east well before this period but I wanted some of those new Athearn Genesis engines when they first came out so I got them and kept them-then my daughter and son-in-law gave me another and it had to stay on the layout. This consist is known as the oh no consist. I...

Gaviota

http://www.pattisonnet.net/gaviota.html

Since we have been spending a lot of winter months at Gaviota and because there are lots of great pictures to be taken there, we have this one section devoted to Gaviota. Hope you enjoy the pictures and stories. Our first stay at Gaviota was from November of 2009 through February of 2010. Here are the pictures. Our second stay was from January-March 2011. Here are some pictures from that trip. January 2015 found us back at Gaviota. Here are some pictures from that trip.

Gaviota 2015

http://www.pattisonnet.net/Gaviota/Gaviota_2015.htm

An early morning cell phone shot of an early visitor and his cell phone. As seen across the campground. Red sky in morning, leads to a pretty day at Gaviota. February led to more orange and fewere sunrises photographed as the changing time of sunrise didn't corespond with a time that I was out and about. And now a few sunsets. Almost a green flash. Great suset color on the east end of the beach along with the shadow of the pier. Into February and the sunset is nearing the land. A long time exposure.

Donald Nute's Steam Locomotive Photos

Donald Nute's Steam Locomotive Collection. I hunt steam locomotives. I hunt them in museums, at tourist railroads, in shopping mall parking lots, in grassy fields, or wherever I can find them. I shoot them with a digital camera. Some of the images are on this site. Below is a list of the steam locomotive I have collected. Beside the builder's name to see the images. I also model steam locomotives in 1:20.3 scale (for our narrow-gauge garden railroad. And tell me about it. Braithwaite, Milner, and Company.
