>What’s On Second? | Tigers Baseball Outsider
https://tigersbaseballoutsider.wordpress.com/2011/06/04/whats-on-second
A thinking fans perspective. Posted by: Fred Brill. June 4, 2011. What’s On Second? Jim Leyland explains infield. Changes to 1st baseman. Okay, I know. The old Abbot and Costello bit right? Well given the fact I have worked with guys named Hu and Watt that bit has made for hours of stupid rehashed jokes when figuring project work assignments. But now I’m serious. Why Miguel Cabrera no issue there hitting nicely over .300 and playing a solid one bag. No problems. But what’s on second? So what’s on second?

Too Cool For The Stones | Head Stuffing

Too Cool For The Stones. May 4, 2012. Posted by Fred Brill in Beatles. I had the Rolling Stones playing on the radio this morning in the Jeep. I was driving my two lovely young daughters, ages eleven and nine, to school on my way to work. The song was Honky Tonk Woman, and the school is only two and a half blocks from our house. My two little princesses could easily walk but every morning even beautiful warm spring mornings like this morning I drop them off on my way to work. Don’t you like the Stones?

Our Boys of Summer Play On. October 13, 2012. Posted by Fred Brill in Ashley-Rae. The first half of October is a visual smorgasbord here in southwestern Ontario. The reds, the golds, the browns. The end .,. Still there are remnants of summer past left lying around the ball diamonds still have players practicing, the decks all still have tables with umbrellas unfurled, the sun still feels warm to the skin as it reaches its daily apex. Thank god there’s still ball. But now they wear the same cursive styled...

November 20, 2012. Posted by Fred Brill in 3M. Blue Cross Blue Shield. Remembrance Day has come and gone again. My Dad’s birthday was November 11th or Remembrance Day here in Canada. Everyone here dons a red poppy pinned to their lapel to remember our fallen soldiers. When I was a little boy, I always felt bad for Dad having a birthday on Remembrance Day because everyone would be remembering other people and nobody would remember his birthday. Birthdays are important when you’re a little boy. This year I...

June 3, 2012. Posted by Fred Brill in Creationism. I love the month of June. If it were possible my dream would be to live in a place where every day takes place in the first week of June. The weather is still perfect. It’s not too hot but warm enough for swimming. The gardens are still perfect and most everything is green, lush and in bloom. The lawns are still perfect. The grass is still green and not yet stressed to turn brown. My faithful black lab Suzy is in her own paradise now stretched out on the...

My Looks Are Deceiving. February 10, 2013. Posted by Fred Brill in Age. It happened again the other day. It happens all the time, and it never bothered me. But lately since turning fifty last year it like me is starting to grow a bit old. It seems that anytime I take my daughters anywhere, somebody we run into always makes a comment to my girls like:. Isn’t it nice that your grandfather brought you out today. This time Alannah and I were at a walk in clinic. Uh that’s my Dad. I just smiled and nodded.

Playing Ball With The Brill Girls. August 6, 2012. Posted by Fred Brill in Alannah. We’ve had a busy summer so far this year. Lots of swimming in the pool even though I nearly blew our water pump out by running it for a day with the hose valves closed after backwashing. I finally finished my book although I am still in proofreading mode though but I am extremely happy with it and anxious to get some guest readers looking at it. It really paid off this year! And it was great! I had to stop calling the gir...
Winning for Losing | Head Stuffing
https://headstuffing.wordpress.com/2013/07/25/winning-for-losing
July 25, 2013. Posted by Fred Brill in 2013. Sometimes it’s just inevitable. Sometimes you just can’t win for losing. But, then again, sometimes the line between winning and losing is blurred. Last night, my little Gold ’99 fastpitch team was in the semi-final game to see who would go one to play in the championship game. It was a very close battle. The first out was made at first base, the player picking up a ground ball down first base line and the runner beaten to the bag. 8220;No she didn’t....
A Final Pint | Head Stuffing

May 27, 2012. Posted by Fred Brill in funny. I lost another friend this week. My next door neighbor passed away from the same esophagus cancer that took my buddy Don a couple of months ago. We just came back from the memorial service. It was very quaint and very moving, with moving music by a guy playing guitar and singing songs like I Did It My Way. But we just never really had that friend bonding event occur. And I was inspired. I know this is not a new idea. But I do know that the majority of people w...
I got a buddy, eh … | Head Stuffing
https://headstuffing.wordpress.com/2013/06/22/i-got-a-buddy-eh
I got a buddy, eh …. June 22, 2013. Posted by Fred Brill in advice. I don’t care much for self-proclaimed experts. For all that I have met, there is one guy who sits at the top of my list. When I was a younger man, still living in London, I played on a fastpitch softball team with some friends and we were a pretty good team. And for every subject there seemed to be a different buddy. It drove me nuts, and the tripe that spewed. Out of his mouth after declaring his buddy status was usually quite useless.

A thinking fan's perspective. Sunday, May 20, 2012. 2012 and the 40 Game Mark. Here again we sit at the 40 game mark. Verlander tips hat after. Finishing almost no-hittter against. Pittsburgh on May 18. This time the year is 2012, and the Tiger's roster has all of baseball expecting the Detroiters to be the AL Central Champs – and to at least advance well into the playoffs. Justin Verlander came out of the off season with the same kind of control and domination he showed last year. A game under .500?
