World Outdoor Web: Hardmoors 60 Ultra Marathon
http://blog.w-o-w.com/2011/09/hardmoors-60-ultra-marathon.html
Outdoor activities, cycling, climbing, walking, caving. Tuesday, 27 September 2011. Hardmoors 60 Ultra Marathon. My main reason for entering this event was to gain enough "points" to enter the UTMB (Ultra Tour de Mont Blanc). However I discovered that the Hardmoors events are worthy challenges in their own right, and although no where near as hilly as other long distances challenges I have done, the pace required to complete them in the time limit makes them very tough propositions. Mile splits - notice ...

Quote from Bob Graham Club web site: "Whatever the motivation, completing a successful winter Bob Graham Round is a fabulous experience and achievement and those who have done so should rightly be saluted.". Prior to the 2010/11 winter only 18 succesful winter rounds have been recorded since the first in 1986. After a failed attempt. LEG ONE - KESWICK TO THRELKELD. For a while it was ...

Outdoor activities, cycling, climbing, walking, caving. Sunday, 14 February 2010. Bob Graham Round - Training. Having built up a good level of general fitness over the last few years and doing an ironman distance triathlon last year (2009) I should have a reasonable chance of success. The. Key is lots of long runs in the fells of course so during the first few months of 2010 I am aiming to do two 30km plus runs each week. The "BGR" can be broken down into 5 legs, each which provide good training options.

Outdoor activities, cycling, climbing, walking, caving. Thursday, 1 March 2012. A Trip to the Scottish Wilderness - Bothies and Munros. My friend Phil asked me if I had a weekend free at the end of February, a quick trip to Scotland to do some Munros. He said he had the accommodation sorted and the train tickets could easily be organised. The steep climb out of Glen Tilt. The Tarf Both (Tarf Hotel). I soon realised that even with a bivvy bag on top my sleeping bag was woefully inadequate in the fridge li...

Outdoor activities, cycling, climbing, walking, caving. Wednesday, 14 April 2010. 62kms over the Lakeland Fells. A crucial day for training, legs, 3,4 and 5 of the Bob Graham, taking in the roughest ground and the biggest climbs. Fantastic weather was a real bonus, only two weeks ago it was like the Arctic, today in T Shirts we were sweating on the summits. Ascending Yewbarrow - Scafell behind. Running into early evening on the Buttermere Fells. Labels: Bob Graham Training. Monday, 5 April 2010. The fina...

Outdoor activities, cycling, climbing, walking, caving. Monday, 29 March 2010. A Cold Wet Day above Wasdale. Todays Bob Graham training run was most of leg 4. Approacing from Seathwaite this meant we have nearly 30kms of rough ground to cover, and the weather forecast was pretty grim! After an hour we had done the easy bit, over Styhead Pass to Wasdale. A good character building day! Back out of the cloud at last and a view of Seathwaite. Labels: Bob Graham Round. Sunday, 14 March 2010. The next 15 kms t...

Outdoor activities, cycling, climbing, walking, caving. Saturday, 1 May 2010. Last few weeks before Bob Graham Attempt. It is a fine line between over training and getting enough stamina in your legs for a 100km (30,000ft ascent) challenge. On all runs except my last main run before my attempt on the Bob Graham Round at the end of May I seemed to get the balance right. Ascending to High Raise - 7am. Descending to Wasdale before the weather deteriorates. Ascending Kirk Fell in miserable conditions. So des...
