Thoughts on faith, life and ministry…. Spending Time on the Balcony and the Dance Floor. September 27, 2012. As a leader there is value in spending time both:. On the balcony – getting a big picture perspective removed from day to day responsibilities and. On the dance floor – accomplishing day to day tasks to make progress as an organization. Spending time in either location can be productive, however you cannot spend your time in one place or another. This entry was posted in leadership. Andrew, My imm...

To guarantee, or not to guarantee? What churches can learn from restaurants… →. December 20, 2007 · 11:30 am. You Gotta Be Kidding Me…. So last Saturday evening, my wife and I celebrated our anniversary (12/18, three years! However, toward the end of the musical (which was great by the way), the senior pastor came out and gave a very nice 5 minute presentation of the gospel, and invited folks to bow their heads and pray “the sinner’s prayer” with him. Wonderful! You gotta be kidding me! Enter your commen...

You Gotta Be Kidding Me…. Bible reading in public →. February 25, 2008 · 3:30 pm. What churches can learn from restaurants…. So, it’s been forever since I’ve posted. I’m going to try to get back into this…. On the last two date nights with my wife, we went to dinner at two different chain restaurants here in Newport News/Hampton. Last month, when we went for my birthday, we were seated quite promptly and given our menus to look over and told that someone would be right with us. Great! And let her know ab...
Pastor Dress Code? | Joseph Yoo

Thoughts on Faith and Life and everything in between, like Batman. Follow Joseph Yoo on WordPress.com. Do you feel that a pastor should be wearing a suit and tie (or formal attire) when s/he is preaching? My dad and I got into this discussion before he left for speaking engagements in Korea. I told him that I personally don’t mind seeing a pastor in jeans, even, and preaching the gospel. My parents completely disagreed. They feel that a suit and tie for a pastor is absolutely necessary. I wear a baseball...

Love and Laughter on the Journey. Reflections on half a century. March 5, 2009, 12:35 pm. I got two things in the mail this week. My mother-in-law sent me a very sweet birthday card that said “more daughter than in-law…more loved with every year.” And, [drum roll….] I got an AARP card! March 2, 2009, 10:55 pm. Find out that the only key to the extra car in the driveway is in Columbia and learn from Columbia about a weekend speeding ticket. (Nothing good ever happens in Lawrence). It’s just Monday.

Love and Laughter on the Journey. Parenting up to the edge. May 4, 2009, 11:49 am. I’ve been thinking about parenting a lot lately, in part because The Church of the Resurrection. Is in the middle of a sermon series on parenting, but primarily because I’m at a crossroad in my parenting career. My children are teetering on the edge of adulthood and I’m not sure if I’ve given them strong enough wings to soar. That guilty mother gremlin is whispering in my ear. Did I spend enough time with them?

Friday, June 1, 2007. Top 10 Highlights of Annual Conference. When I first began this blog I asked Andrew Conard of Thoughts of Resurrection. For his advice. He provided several helpful suggestions, one of which was to check out a post called Blogging 101 for Pastors. By Church Communications Pro. This is a helpful series of blogs if you are thinking about starting your own, or even improving the one you've already got. One of the things that was highly recommended was making lists. 8 Lots of great food.

Thursday, June 7, 2007. What Are You Reading? Last night I realized I need to update my "currently reading" list. I recently finished Free of Charge. And was wondering what to read next. I thought, hey why don't I go and check out what I'm currently reading on my blog. And there was one book left. Then this morning I thought, why don't I ask for help from the blogosphere. So, what are you reading? Or, what have you recently read that you would highly recommend? Posted by Kevin Watson. By Borg and Crossan.

Friday, June 8, 2007. Derek Webb Is Crooked Deep Down. In some ways Derek Webb's. Music has played all of those roles in my life. Center Aisle and Table for Two from his Caedmon's Call. Days helped me to wrestle with the loneliness that I occasionally wrestled with in college. I have also been known to just turn up the volume and sing along to Daring Daylight Escape and Thankful (also from Caedmon's days). My life looks good i do confess, you can ask anyone. Just don’t ask my real good friends. And then ...

Tuesday, June 5, 2007. What Children Need from Their Parents. I just uploaded the last sermon of the "Family Matters" sermon series to my podcast. I apologize for not getting it up sooner, but last week was a very busy week with Annual Conference and I wasn't at the office much. You can listen to this sermon by clicking here. This sermon series had some of the most difficult sermons I have ever preached, but I can say that I learned a lot and it was very good for my prayer life! Posted by Kevin Watson.

Taking a look at 2009 should give me a clue to 2010 thought i, but then again 2009 was a monumental year with so many preconceived. Thoughts turned on their heads that I think it will take most of 2010 to get some semblance of balance. To say this was like spending a day in a locked room with Janet Street. Thoughts of Rhyme | Poems by JuWels
January 4, 2013. Vengeance is the action. Pure hate, not a fraction. Because fear’s the faction. But disharmony’s the distraction. As more power’s the attraction. Poverty’s the result of inaction. Some face substantial subtraction. Continuance of such is our infraction. Do to greed’s contraction. Like a multi-billion dollar transaction. Those with influence, taction. Mo’money face less extraction. January 4, 2013. Hate is what I used to be into. The motivation to help me push thru. Or rather human mercy.
