The whole village is a National Historic Site! Follows the ‘Plat of Zion’ format decreed by the Church. To understand this unique town layout, visit the cutaway house on the corner of 1st St. and 4th Ave., where info plaques tell the story of the first Mormon pioneers. Home to the Michelsen Farmstead Provincial Historic Site. The Country Barn B&B just opened in a renovated barn. Great birdwatching nearby, and good cycle paths in town. Home of Alberta’s oldest rodeo. The town hall (photo) is a former LDS church. Behind the scenes’ tours of the beautiful hall, its library and theatre can be arranged by calling ahead. Magrath is a Garden City, so named after the Utopian movement of the late 19th century. The Galt Canal diversion works here became a National Historic Site.in 1899! The canal, between Magrath and Stirling, was, at the time, the largest irrigation project in Canada. Many of the earliest Mormon settlers were sent here to build it. The Magrath ridge features industry old and new. Former Russian president Mikhail Gorbachev called this the most beautiful agricultural valley he’d ever seen.

The gorgeous Mormon temple is a National Historic Sight. Just 10 minutes north of the U.S. border, and a half hour from Glacier National Park in Montana. Founded by a wagon train of pioneers in June, 1887, in one of the last great wagon migrations in North America. The Remington Carriage Museum here will show you what wagon life was like. Near the Remington’s stables, stands a new life-size bronze statue of native son George Woolf riding the famous Seabiscuit to victory. Content to Mormon Trail Canada.
