Eggs aplenty – THE GARDEN FARMERS

https://thegardenfarmers.com/2016/02/01/eggs-aplenty

February 1, 2016. The joy of eggs. The grass is always greener…. One thought on “ Eggs aplenty. February 2, 2016 at 7:48 am. Bulbs flowering, bees flying and chickens laying are really the hat trick of Spring aren’t they? Everything seems to be 3-4 weeks earlier this year, so hopefully we won’t have a late cold snap to damage the brave plants and trees in blossom…. I do love that hen house 😉. November 2015 – THE GARDEN FARMERS

https://thegardenfarmers.com/2015/11

The joy of eggs. November 20, 2015. Boy, they were good. Since then, there’s been a steady supply of, on average, three a day. In order to keep the peace, James has relocated the new miniature flock to their own quarters a dog kennel we converted into a chicken coop years ago with its own undercover and open runs. This way the rookies can lay only in their own house and, meanwhile, our older girls and Jeffrey, the Araucana cockerel, are enjoying the Henmobile and free-ranging around the garden.

September 11, 2015. Not only this but she reeled off the best varieties to choose, recommending early-, mid- and late-cropping types that would ensure we’re provided for as long as possible. What took her a matter of minutes would have required extensive study and time on my part and I’m hugely grateful. In conclusion, we settled on the following – the cherries will be trained along wires:. 2 x Glen Moy. 1 x Ben Hope. 1 x Big Ben. 1 x Blue crop. 1 x Early Champagne. 1 x Lapins Cherokee. http://rosiechook.blogspot.com/2011_05_01_archive.html

All about life, love and everything else in between! Wednesday, 4 May 2011. RIP My beloved cat Gnasher x A tribute. I lost my beloved cat Gnasher on April 12th 2011. How I have cried! I miss my gentle, placid pal. I had him cremated and yesterday placed his ashes in his favourite place he used to sleep in, at the sunniest part of the garden. I have planted poppies and sweet peas around him. To my Gnasher - RIP My beautiful boy xxx we could never forget you x. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). An Adoptive Mum w...

All about life, love and everything else in between! Tuesday, 5 March 2013. I'm just a tad excited. the sun has been lovely and Spring is finally coming. and so is my Birthday! It's a few weeks away yet (and not a special one or anything) but I have already started dropping hints to my family with regards to what I would like :). Nothing too fancy or expensive - and I'm asking everyone to chip in. Well - what do you think? I also am harbouring secret plans to. It's very friendly and compact but plays 40'...

Ma Wee Hens - Chicken Diary: January 2013

http://maweehens.blogspot.com/2013_01_01_archive.html

Ma Wee Hens - Chicken Diary. Thursday, 31 January 2013. The Scots Dumpy was first out of the house this morning. I opened the pop hole at 8am and they were squawking to get on with their day. The two Orpingtons seemed to struggle with balancing on their way down the ramp, they seem too heavy for their little feet and take the ramp cautiously. There was a slight frost this morning and it was very cold. Only the Scots Dumpy ventured out from the roofed run and entered the caged area. The Scots Dumpy came o...

Ma Wee Hens - Chicken Diary: February 2013

http://maweehens.blogspot.com/2013_02_01_archive.html

Ma Wee Hens - Chicken Diary. Monday, 25 February 2013. The continuing diagnosis of our ill hen. Poor Didee. She was hunkered down beneath the door ramp today, staying out of the wind. I brought her inside today to spend some time with me in the warmth. We sat by a heater and I feed her a mixture of milky bread, wheat and barley seeds and some cheese. She really loved all of it! But I think she has a special like for cheese now! Thursday, 21 February 2013. Red lines and a Bouncing Rosie. Strangely though,...

Ma Wee Hens - Chicken Diary: June 2013

http://maweehens.blogspot.com/2013_06_01_archive.html

Ma Wee Hens - Chicken Diary. Sunday, 23 June 2013. Our top hen Matilda has gone broody! I can't believe it! And we have no fertilised eggs for her either. She has dropped lots of feathers from under her tummy and is sitting in one of the nest boxes ON NOTHING! It is really a bit funny. So now we have only been getting 3 eggs at the most. Has anyone got any other ideas that they've found successful? I don't know what this will do to the pecking order, as she is the top hen, and is a really gentle leader.

Rosiechook's ramblings: Our day out...

http://rosiechook.blogspot.com/2012/07/our-day-out.html

All about life, love and everything else in between! Monday, 30 July 2012. Last week was a busy week for the Rosiechook residence. Little chick broke up from School and I was still poorly with the lurgy which meant a trip to the Doctors. I officially have been diagnosed with Asthma and given steroids and an inhaler. It kinds of explains why I was awake every night sounding like Darth Vader! Anyway, I am feeling much better now, thank goodness. And there is The Lowry Theatre. The Tower of the Lowry Theatre.

Ma Wee Hens - Chicken Diary: July 2013

http://maweehens.blogspot.com/2013_07_01_archive.html

Ma Wee Hens - Chicken Diary. Friday, 19 July 2013. The Brood is Broken. Our top hen Matilda has been broody for over a month now and despite all of our efforts to break her brooding we had not succeeded, until now. These aren't my red mites, I got the photo from the internet. Click photo for the source. Matilda being ousted for an entire day and not being able to sit seems to have cured her of her broodiness at last! Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Sharing my happy life in Scotland. Ma Wee Hens - Chicken Diary: February 2014

http://maweehens.blogspot.com/2014_02_01_archive.html

Ma Wee Hens - Chicken Diary. Friday, 21 February 2014. Colours to tell them all Apart! We now have three hens that are all black bantam Australorps and it can be difficult to tell them apart from a distance. It is easy when we're outside with them, as Olive is the smallest and has scaly, lumpy legs. Queenie is the largest and has an unusual pronged part to her comb, and Rosie is the most confident and always seems to be around us. Rosie has a red ring - rosy red makes sense. Yellow = Daisy, Sunny, Gloria,.

THE GARDEN FARMERS – Keeping hens, raising pigs, growing fruit, tending veg

Keeping hens, raising pigs, growing fruit, tending veg. The grass is always greener…. March 22, 2016. Now the days are longer and warmer, too, we’re thriving on a plentiful supply, in various forms poached, scrambled, boiled, baked, fried, and eggs are the star ingredients in a range of cakes as well as savoury dishes. I don’t think the novelty of taking a still-warm egg from the straw that lines a nesting box chicken coop will ever wear off. Happy henkeeping all! February 1, 2016. The joy of eggs. We wo...
