Contrarian Views: A World Where...
http://metalofheaven.blogspot.com/2008/11/world-where.html
Wednesday, November 12, 2008. My friend posting a comment. As anonymous wrote, “I feel it in my bones that something cataclysmic is coming.” Hyperbole? Written after the writer has spent two tours of duty in Iraq; maybe not. Could we even imagine a world where laws are routinely ignored, where justice is a quaint concept, where poverty is most common, and where wealth and power rule supreme? David M. Smith. Again, well said! Thu Nov 13, 03:59:00 AM. Thank you, Dave, for your service! And you, too, David.

Contrarian Views: Change and Hope
http://metalofheaven.blogspot.com/2008/11/change-and-hope.html
Friday, November 07, 2008. Americans have rejected opportunity in favor of certainty. When we go to bed at night, we want to know we will be able to sleep in a bed the next night, regardless of our ability to earn a living for ourselves and our families. Most Americans, including many Republicans, are tired of being afraid. I may be spending the rest of my life preparing to die as a dinosaur. I hope not. David M. Smith. The problem is "the pitiless crowbar of events" has a way of laying to waste utopian ...

Contrarian Views: Taxpayer Bailout
http://metalofheaven.blogspot.com/2008/09/taxpayer-bailout.html
Tuesday, September 30, 2008. I am amused at how the word “taxpayer” gets attached to the word “bailout” when referring to the Paulson Plan and other congressional proposals to loosen the credit markets. Add another word, “crisis”, and we have created a narrative that makes the solution for relieving the tight credit markets unacceptable to the general public. David M. Smith. Tue Sep 30, 01:48:00 PM. David M. Smith. The Classical reason for balancing the Federal budget is to keep the private sector from h...

Books, Tea, and Me. Monday, February 27, 2006. How the Mighty Have Fallen. I've been too depressed to write much lately. My Granddad died. In the end the sickness was worse than death. In death there was release. At the funeral looking at his date of birth I realized Rob was only 16 when he was in the Korean war. Born in 1935 and the Korean war was 1951-1952-You do the math! I know this will be a tough day for his mom, but I'm not really sure how to reach out to her. So many people are sad this time of year. The losses of the past years come back to haunt them. Books, Tea, and Me: April 2006
http://booksteaandme.blogspot.com/2006_04_01_archive.html
Books, Tea, and Me. Monday, April 10, 2006. Last week I watched the movie. It was interesting and very enjoyable. Three years before, I read. And almost from the begining, was drawn into the book. The movie. Gives the viewer insight into Capote the man and the methods he employed to research and write his book. Phillip Seymour Hoffman mastered the role of Capote and his voice (I listened to audio of Capote reading his short story. And can vouch for Hoffman's skill). Of course after watching the movie.

Books, Tea, and Me. Tuesday, November 29, 2005. Pride and Prejudice v. Pride and Prejudice. Jane Austin may be rolling in her grave, but then again she may merely be Excessively diverted , in the latest attempt at adapting her novel. How annoyed am I at the attempt? Let me count the ways! 1 Keira Knightly as Elizabeth Bennett- she smiles too much! 2 Where is the dialog folks? Does anyone remember 1995’s Sense and Sensibility? 3 Three very silly sisters! I am glad that people are still enthralled enough b...
