Have you seen my wabi-sabi? A place to reflect, ramble, and rofl. At adventures from my study abroad in Nihon. Honestly, there could be shenanigans. Wabi-sabi, and the nature of this blog. Day 6: An Appoggiatura on Hiei-zan. Friday morning we got up early, and it looked like the weather was going to work in our favor. (Mostly sunny, according to weather.com.) We took a few buses to reach the the base of Hiei-zan and waited at the cable car station for it to come back down. A peek inside Jodo-in. Going do...

The Uttermost Nonsense-Now in Japan!: December 2010
http://hailbeta.blogspot.com/2010_12_01_archive.html
The Uttermost Nonsense-Now in Japan! Read all about it! Wednesday, December 1, 2010. I have risen from the doom of having caught a full blown cold! All I needed was to die for a day and a half. Not bad. But as I write this, I still have some symptoms, sore throat, ear pain and no willing to do anything. Some would say I'm a zombie, I can live with that. All I need for dinner is brain. Shouldn't be too hard to find? 1 The mumbling bus drivers. What the effing hell are they mumbling about? I have no idea!

Day 7: Gion, Take 3. Third time's a charm. So, after a stop at Starbucks, Robert and I finally made a real. We started where we'd been before in Gion, at Yasaka-jinja. The weather was much more amiable this time around: it was a beautiful, cool, sunny day, and there were a number of new and interesting sights that day.

Monkeys, Wild Boars, and Deer, oh my:. Some terrifying space monkeys maybe got loose? Seeing as we live up in ye olde hills, the local wildlife is a bit of an issue. I I-House has saru, otherwise known as Macaca fuscata,. 1) Don't leave food scraps on the balconies or around I-House. 2) Don't approach the monkeys.

And here.we.go! I managed to consolidate choice belongings into a bookbag, a dufflebag, and a suitcase- a large one, mind you- the latter weighing just under 50 lbs. Unless the scale is lying to me. We hope the scale isn't deceitful. So this is the plan:. 1) Meet Robert and Gerry at the airport. Ok, first we spring for...

Day 5: Apotheosis, Tengu, and Kodama. I just wanted to start by sharing this incredible hand-drawn map of the area surrounding the guesthouse. How awesome is it? And is filled with images of cattle. (I'm not entirely sure why- about the cattle.). One of the vendors on our way out actually gave us a few free slices of d...

So I keep saying I'm going to get back and finish/continue this blog. I do intend to. I got caught up in the new semester, trying to reconnect with people and all of that nonsense.2011 hit and I was like "Jeez, in a few months it will have been a year since I left to stay in Japan.". Though it's not quite so up to date.

Day 4: "What was the last cargo we snuck past the Alliance to transport? What was the cargo? They were dolls.". They were little geisha dolls with big heads that wobbled! Hey, people LOVE those! Robert found his "ichiban". This was a really HUGE inkstone. For a REALLY big brush. Love the entwined dragon carvings. We ac...

University Life Thus Far. And now, I will sum up my first, hm, about two weeks here at the I-House in one post! Just down the street in the other direction. We have to pay our rent at the konbini, by the way, but any. Konbini in the country will do. One day last week, when the weather was finally nice- I think it might...
