Colganology: Beautiful Sounds
http://colganology.blogspot.com/2015/03/beautiful-sounds.html
Tuesday, 10 March 2015. Let's face it - 3D printing is the technology of tomorrow. And, like any technology, there's a place for it as a tool for the artist. In the past few days I've been struck by the beauty of some 3D printed musical instruments that will be on display at the 3D Print Design Show in New York City in April. Just look at these beautiful shapes:. Some more wonderful MONAD designs can be found on their website here. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Follow my Blog by Email. Joined-Up Th...

Sunday, 18 May 2014. Friday night was all about dinosaurs, insect sex and arthropod cuisine. The Natural History Museum in London was hosting one of its occasional. Sleep-over events and I was invited to come along and join in by my friend Dr Erica McAlister. She's curator of flies at the NHM and a fantastic science communicator (here's her blog. There are two types of. After a while we all traipsed inside and this is when the seasoned campaigners had the advantage over us newbies. They headed straig...

Colganology: Justyna Kopania - Her paint bills must be enormous
http://colganology.blogspot.com/2015/02/justyna-kopania-her-paint-bills-must-be.html
Thursday, 26 February 2015. Justyna Kopania - Her paint bills must be enormous. I wish I could paint like Polish artist Justyna Kopania. The paint is applied so thickly and so freely and yet the finished result is a beautifully considered piece every time. I wish I could be that expressive and loose in my work. I'm altogether too rigid. Maybe I should get the palette knives out and have a play? You can see more over on Saatchi Art. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Follow my Blog by Email. Quite simply...

Colganology: Marginalia Madness
http://colganology.blogspot.com/2015/02/marginalia-madness.html
Thursday, 26 February 2015. Last year I was at the Edinburgh Festival and made a point of going to watch Holly Walsh's show. It sparked an interest in me too and I've been seeking it out ever since. Sometimes they wrote poems and prayers. Other times they drew pictures, and a few were hilariously rude and imaginative. Like this knight fighting a snail . And this guy squaring up to a savage rabbit. But now let's sink deeper into the marginalia mire. Oh look! Here's some monkey sodomy . The Skeptical (ex) ...

Saturday, 29 March 2014. The Sticky Monsters of John Kenn Mortensen. I was browsing through bookshops in London yesterday when I came across a wonderful little yellow and black book called. It's a collection of monster doodles, all done on. Notes by a Danish children's TV producer called John Kenn Mortensen. I had to buy the book. If you get a chance to buy the book. Do so If not, visit Mortensen's blog here. Or his Tumblr here. Where he posts new pics regularly. Friday, 21 March 2014. Proved to be one o...

Colganology: February 2015
http://colganology.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html
Saturday, 28 February 2015. Columbus - Step by Step. Here's another new painting I've done. It was inspired by a book called Flotsametrics and the Floating World. By scientists Curtis Ebbesmeyer and Eric Scigliano. Anyway, I thought it would be great to do a painting that captures the loneliness of the long-distance rubber duckie. And, to give a sense of space, I figured I'd need a big canvas to convey the smallness of the duck. So, I picked a 24" by 30" by 3/4" box canvas and 'got rid of the white'.

DESIGN BLOG: January 2010
http://gnu43.blogspot.com/2010_01_01_archive.html
Tuesday, 5 January 2010. This is called, 'The Singing Ringing Tree', a public Art work commissioned by Burnley CC, overlooking the Pennines in Lancashire. I think that this is a beautiful example of a land sculpture, making the environment integral to the work - in this instance the wind. Designed by architects Mike Tonkin and Anna Liu of Tonkin Liu. There is another one which I came across, where the wind is used to create sound and this is equally as beautiful. Saturday, 2 January 2010. View my complete...
