I also owe a big thank you to TriNow Fitness. I called them at 3:30 on Wednesday, and they shipped out an order of CarboPro. Passing a guy on the bike course who says, "Someone els...

Mind the minutes and the hours will take care of themselves. Monday, October 14, 2013. A few days after what was supposed to be my last race at the TBF Granite Bay Triathlon. I found out that I qualified for Xterra USA Championships. In Ogden, Utah. Invitations are handed out based on points earned at Xterra races during the year. I wasn't sure about going, but when I found out that my brother also qualified I decided to make the trip to Utah. I put together a short slideshow with music:.

Never give up, never surrender". Tuesday, May 31, 2011. Climb Mt. Whitney: check. Let's back up a bit. The third week of May marked the end of my sentence, err training, in Monterey. We did the whole graduation thing, the Parks Director pinned a shiny star on my jacket, I packed up and got the hell out. Holly and I rolled in to San Diego at about 11PM that night and collapsed on the bed. Done. We weighed our packs on the hanging scale at the trail head just for giggles: me 53 lbs, Dan 55 lbs. Yikes!

Never give up, never surrender". Monday, November 26, 2012. Triathlon Off-Season Tips and Tricks. 1) What's the plan, Stan? Before you suit up and head out the door for your first workout of the season, you need to know what you're doing and why you're doing it. Every workout needs an articulable purpose and should move you toward peak fitness on race day. The key to being in your best shape when you need it is to have a plan. 2) Get your swoll on. 3) You are what you eat. 4) Slow is PRO. It's also time ...

Never give up, never surrender". Monday, October 24, 2011. I know: I'm averaging about one 'blog update a month. I'm sure that both of you who read my 'blog are crushed. I'm sorry. People always stop me and remark about what a great job I have. It's way better than sitting in a cubicle all day, but long hours sitting in a truck and dealing with the "bad" part of the population keep it from feeling like a permanent vacation. Nice views out my office window, though. It's getting on into Winter, which means...

Never give up, never surrender". Tuesday, October 15, 2013. 2013 Season Summary (Part II). Last post, I left off after a disappointing finish at Xterra West, but with time to fix some weaknesses before heading into 70.3 St George. I've only done one other 70.3, Oceanside, back in 2005. I was sure that the years of training since then would add up to a strong race. After hearing the horror stories of how steep the bike course was, Holly and I decided to drive the course. I was glad we did, it's steep!

Never give up, never surrender". Friday, August 26, 2011. Like when you take a sip of a soda you swear was supposed to be Dr. Pepper and it turns out to be Coke. That awkward split second where you brain goes."wait a minute, this isn't what I expected.". Thursday I hit up one of my favorite So Cal trails. Hello, old friend. There was one other car in the parking lot when I pulled in and the rider passed me going down hill as I was going up. I had the trail all to myself! Basically, I'm squeezing training...

The Joys of Race Training. Parent of Two who wants to be competitive in Duathlon events, and the challenges of training while working full time and raising a family. Sunday, May 30, 2010. I finally got back on the horse today and went out for what ended up being a 3 hour ride / 50 miles. Wow, it has been a while since I have been on the bike that long. But it was really pretty and I got to enjoy the experience more today than I have in a while. I could not believe how fast they were going, and when they ...

Never give up, never surrender". Monday, August 6, 2012. Xterra Snow Valley Race Report. Apologies for not posting as much as I used to. Between work, a wedding, training and more, I have very little time for much else. Oh yeah; I got married! Holly and I tied the knot in June at Crystal Cove. Perfect weather, all our friends, delicious food and plenty of libations. Stoked to be married to such a wonderful woman. I warmed up, chatted with Trevor a bit, set up T2 and headed up the mountain to the lake....

Never give up, never surrender". Friday, October 4, 2013. 2013 Season Summary (Part 1). The early season was BUSY on all fronts. I wound up going away for a few weeks to San Luis Obispo for work training and then crammed back-to-back-to-back races into the end of March/ beginning of April. NOT ideal, but Xterra. Is a cruel mistress sometimes. The madness started with Xterra REAL in Granite Bay, CA on 3/30. Keeps your head warm since latex doesn't transmit heat very well. This time, things were on the man...
