Google PageSpeed and How I Learned To Love The mod. June 8, 2011. I’ve spent a lot of time fighting against plugins and WordPress in general in attempt to get my Google PageSpeed over 90. Django-softdelete project on github. August 3, 2011. Inspired by a post on override the default model manager to support soft-deleting objects. In the database, I decided to implement it into one of my projects. (Yes, I know it’s an old post but it was new to me! However, just being able to filter the query sets returned to exclude items which had. Wasn’t enough for what I wanted to do. Nor was just customizing the django’s admin interface to filter by on whether or not. Thus, the django-softdelete.

July 3, 2011. I haven’t spent that much time on github. Until recently. Poking around there led me to create my first project repository and put in up for anyone to use: django-apikey. The original post/announcement can be read here: “django-apikey — Key Based Authorization For RESTful Django Applications”. It quickly got some feedback, all of which was very useful. One commenter suggested making some unit tests for the code, which forced me to learn how to write test cases for Django.

Twisted Writer: Minor Characters and Scene Stealing

http://constantlyuntitled.blogspot.com/2010/10/minor-characters-and-scene-stealing.html

The thoughts of a recovering programmer. Wednesday, October 20, 2010. Minor Characters and Scene Stealing. Most stories have a score of minor characters, who shuffle in and out of the narrative.  Usually, they have their "screen time", convey any information they have, move the story forward, and leave.  Where do they go? 160; What do they do next? Most readers don't care and, probably, most writers don't either.  After all, their minor characters. In my novel, The Path Into Darkness. It ended up being a...

Twisted Writer: Protagonist. Antagonist. I’m the One With the Gun.

http://constantlyuntitled.blogspot.com/2010/10/protagonist-antagonist-im-one-with-gun.html

The thoughts of a recovering programmer. Monday, October 18, 2010. Protagonist. Antagonist. I’m the One With the Gun. The basic structure of a story is a time tested formula.  Protagonist versus antagonist - whether that antagonist be another person, a creature, or even the elements. Just like parents, writers aren't really supposed to favor any one character over another.  But it happens.  Some of them are just plain fun to write. My favorite protagonist comes from a NaNo. Where Jason Garreth is fun to ...

Twisted Writer: 2008-09-14

http://constantlyuntitled.blogspot.com/2008_09_14_archive.html

The thoughts of a recovering programmer. Saturday, September 20, 2008. Metallica's Death Magnetic is . well . pretty damn good. This isn't usually a music review site, but I picked up Metallica's new album, Death Magnetic. I was skeptical, what with having been disappointed by St. Anger. There was a lot of hype surrounding this one, and how it would be a return to their older sound. Personally, I liked Load. Truth be told, I preferred the latter). The world could have done without "The Unforgiven III", w...

The thoughts of a recovering programmer. Saturday, October 9, 2010. Favorite Genre of Fiction. My favorite genre of fiction. Twisted Writer: A Conversation Amongst Friends

http://constantlyuntitled.blogspot.com/2010/10/conversation-amongst-friends.html

The thoughts of a recovering programmer. Thursday, October 21, 2010. A Conversation Amongst Friends. Most writers like to write certain types of scenes more than others.  Some authors simply excel at action scenes.  Others are phenomenal at dramatic, soul-revealing dialog. I like to write scenes showing the interaction between friends.  Usually, there's quite a bit of sarcasm involved. I do like sarcasm. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Twisted Writer: Romance and Writing

http://constantlyuntitled.blogspot.com/2010/10/romance-and-writing.html

The thoughts of a recovering programmer. Saturday, October 16, 2010. Romance is not just a genre of fiction and movies. One of the key ingredients to a dramatic story is romance.  Even light fare - action movies or comedies for example - almost always have some romantic element to them.  It may not be developed greatly, but it's there, adding depth and drama to the overall story. I don't write romance stories, but I do include elements of romance in my works. As I don't write erotica, I don't go into muc...

The thoughts of a recovering programmer. Monday, October 25, 2010. It’s Time to Die … Or Is It? Death . it's a staple of fiction and movies.  Dramatic deaths.  Casual deaths.  Murders. It's a driving force to advance plot lines or to resolve a dramatic arc. There comes a time when a character needs to die.  Not because you hate them, but because it will advance the story towards its conclusion. And when that occurs, as a writer you have to ask yourself, "How comfortable am I with this? Stephen King repea...

Front porch apostle, kingdom voice, husband, father, lover of God. Of risk, bravery, and being safe. June 24, 2015. A somewhat ordinary morning conversation with my daughter took a fun turn this morning. It went a little like this:. ADLIH: eat som’thin. ME: what do you want to eat? ME: you want to eat banana. Okay! I’ll get you one. ME: oh, you want to climb up there and get one yourself? ADLIH: ooooooo (which is her current way of telling us we interpreted her correctly). Why do you have so little faith?
