Laurelhurst Craftsman Bungalow: Our Paint Stripping Process
http://www.laurelhurstcraftsman.com/p/our-paint-stripping-process.html
Our Paint Stripping Process. Jeff and I learned to strip paint by both watching a crew strip paint in our downstairs and then by stripping the woodwork in place in two bedrooms ourselves. We don't claim to be experts, but we have learned some techniques that might help others to successfully strip paint in their homes. First, our big break-through to success was audio books. When we first attempted to strip paint ourselves, we tried the silent paint remover. We also have a variety of scrapers designed fo...

Laurelhurst Craftsman Bungalow: More Basement Bath
http://www.laurelhurstcraftsman.com/2015/08/more-basement-bath.html
Saturday, August 8, 2015. We got a pretty. In the mail today; a chrome waste bin. It's quite nice looking with a slight hammered look. I bought this off of Amazon. And I'm happy that it is real metal. Often when you buy stuff that looks like metal in a picture, it's actually plastic when you get it. I'm probably going to buy another one for the master bath. So, instead, I decided to try just spray painting it. It was about $10 for the two cans of paint. I followed the advice of this blog. Looks like it&#...

Monday, February 23, 2015. Welcome to my somewhat neglected blog. In it, I document our research and restoration of our 1912 Arts and Crafts house in Laurelhurst, Portland, Oregon. I am deeply honored that American Bungalow. Has chosen to include our house in their well-respected magazine and I welcome all you folks who got this blog address from that article. If you are visiting to check out my original source research that I've posted, the best way to see is it to click on the " Inspiration. Before and...

If we found a good home for her, probably! September 16, 2012 at 10:31 PM. Poor birdie, she was probably having the time of her life gnawing on that table. September 16, 2012 at 11:53 PM. Laurelhurst Craftsman Bungalow: Basement Bathroom
http://www.laurelhurstcraftsman.com/2011/09/basement-bathroom.html
Friday, September 16, 2011. Our basement bathroom remodel did not go smoothly. Nothing in the room went as planned. Before the remodel, it was this tiny nook in the back corner of the basement. It was dark and a little gross. Here are the before and planned after floor plans. Once the chimney was removed, the bathroom could expand into the original square space and we would punch out the shower into the basement proper. That was the plan anyway. So, we simply asked CDR to skip installing the toilet and s...

Laurelhurst Craftsman Bungalow: July 2015

Friday, July 31, 2015. Latest Bathroom Sketchup Files. I haven't had much time to play in SketchUp this week as we've been really busy dealing with canning and other neglected projects. But I did take the time to add all the fiddly bullnose tile pieces on my master bathroom sketchup files. Now that I won that tile auction. Sharon @ Laurelhurst Craftsman. Thursday, July 30, 2015. I got the most fantastic tile score tonight! Sadly, Designs in Tile. I recently called Subway Ceramics. And if you adjust the t...

Laurelhurst Craftsman Bungalow: May 2015
http://www.laurelhurstcraftsman.com/2015_05_01_archive.html
Sunday, May 31, 2015. The wear and tear on my hands made it hard to do a lot of work today, but thankfully Jeff stepped up and helped out. Generally, Jeff and I divide up paint stripping. He strips paint in the high areas and I do the low areas. I typically do most of the chemical stripping. Jeff sands the weird profiles (usually the picture rail and crowns) and then I sand the flat trim. The paint started peeling off the wall like wallpaper; it was hard to resist giving it a good tug. :D. There is a lit...

Laurelhurst Craftsman Bungalow: August 2015
http://www.laurelhurstcraftsman.com/2015_08_01_archive.html
Saturday, August 29, 2015. I've been obsessing the last week or so about getting our soapstone slab from Sacramento, California to Portland, Oregon. When we remodeled the kitchen in 2012, we bought a "remnant" from Teresina Soapstone that was enough for our proposed bathroom project. At the time, we planned to get to the project sooner, but we all know how that went. LOL. Anyway, fast forward two years and Teresina has been bought out by Sierra Soapstone. And I guess I better figure out the dumpster soon.

Laurelhurst Craftsman Bungalow: Sifting Tile Again
http://www.laurelhurstcraftsman.com/2015/08/sifting-tile-again.html
Sunday, August 9, 2015. I had plans to work on other projects today, but I got distracted looking through the many boxes of tile again. I've been working on getting quotes for the tile install in our master bathroom and I'm trying to finalize details of the plan. And once I found this cool tile set, I've been trying to figure out a way to use it. I found this nice set of tiles, but tragically (again) there is not enough tiles. It would also look good.
