Alone in Paris | avocado and lemon

http://sophielangley.com/2015/07/18/alone-in-paris

Words, food, yoga and philosophical whimsy. Skip to primary content. It is 37 degrees in Paris, and I decide I want to get off the stuffy Metro a few stops early to look at something. I don’t plan to walk the rest of the way to the museum I’m hoping to end up at eventually, but I get distracted by a garden, and then I’m walking. And walking, and walking. For some reason, on very hot days I almost always find myself outside, walking for a lot longer than is probably advisable. By the river another hot day...

Words, food, yoga and philosophical whimsy. Skip to primary content. Skip to secondary content. It is the walking I remember most clearly. It is the walking, and the muscle memory of it, the feeling of my feet inside my shoes and the ground underneath them, that allows me to remember other things about the places that quite literally, it seems etch themselves into me. I’m not sure I could come to love a place if I didn’t move through it. I was sad in Edinburgh, but somehow simultaneously so pleased to be...

Other Projects | avocado and lemon

http://sophielangley.com/other-projects

Words, food, yoga and philosophical whimsy. Skip to primary content. Sophie runs The Monday Project with Kate. A Melbourne jeweller, and Mr Sketchy. A sketcher also living in Melbourne. Each month a theme is set, in the form of a word, idea, picture or sentence. Responses from others are more than welcome — they don’t have to be polished (or even finished); the idea is to get the creative cogs moving and work to a deadline. Find out more, and look at past project responses, here. Enter your comment here.

Melbourne yoga instruction by Sophie Langley. Yoga, writing and keeping active. In a few weeks’ time, I’ll be involved in some sessions at the Emerging Writers’ Festival. Which I’m really excited about. I’ll be involved in two events on the weekend. Workshop: Yoga and Writing. 11am-12.30pm, 1 June 2013. The Salon, Abbortsford Convent. Tickets $15, $12 concession. Seriously. I love it when people ask me questions about yoga. Symposium: Keeping Active in the Arts. 230-4pm, 2 June 2013. I’ll also be i...

i found you in melbourne: More on Children in Nepal...

http://ifoundyouinmelbourne.blogspot.com/2010/06/more-on-children-in-nepal.html

Tuesday, June 8, 2010. More on Children in Nepal. I have been totally disillusioned. I didn't have enough money to solve the financial problems of two orphanages. I am a student. I have very limited resources and no experience working with children. I suddenly had two organisations asking me for financial and child welfare guidance. It was a major head fuck. I mean I am the kind of person who is too irresponsible to keep a houseplant alive. June 15, 2010 at 12:36 PM. September 6, 2010 at 6:48 PM. 12 thin...

Thursday, April 8, 2010. The Abbotsford Convent are looking to discontinue the lease of Lentil As Anything Community Restaurant in January next year. This is terrible news. Lentil as Anything provide support and hospitality training for refugees, youth and other members of our community who are struggling to find an opportunity. Lentil are helping to. Address isolation experienced by new migrants and socially isolated people. There is a petition here. Lentil as Anything Abbotsford Convent. I have moved t...

http://ifoundyouinmelbourne.blogspot.com/2009/11/bit-of-shameless-self-promotion.html

Thursday, November 5, 2009. Bit of shameless self-promotion. So I'm going to do a bit of selfless promotion here.but it's Melbourne related so I think it's allowed? This is just a little post to announce that my website I have been working on for the last couple of months is FINALLY up! I have been working as a jeweller for the last 5 years, and earlier this year I have gone out as my own boss! It been very exciting and rewarding and I am loving every minute. Please head over to my website. November 6, 2...

i found you in melbourne: The reason I've been busy...

http://ifoundyouinmelbourne.blogspot.com/2010/04/reason-ive-been-busy.html

Thursday, April 22, 2010. The reason I've been busy. This isn't strictly Melbourne related but it explains my lack of Melbourne related posting. I was away in Nepal volunteering in a small children's home. The trip to Nepal was enough to completely change my ways of thinking but working at the home changed the way i feel. Being around a group of children who want nothing more than your attention and affection (and the occasional candy) breaks your heart. I keep telling myself not to focus on the problems...

i found you in melbourne: Organic wines

http://ifoundyouinmelbourne.blogspot.com/2009/10/organic-wines.html

Tuesday, October 20, 2009. Picture from Mr. T in DC. Lately I have been trying to eat and drink organic. It can be hard on a limited budget and it can be even harder when you live with someone who struggles to see the benefit of paying an extra 50 cents for free range eggs. It hasn't been an easy game. Our local liquor store only had one and a store clerk who asked "Organic wine? Why would you want that? A trip to the liquor superstore resulted in three bottles of red. The Carlei Green Vineyards / Sergio...

i found you in melbourne: MoVida

http://ifoundyouinmelbourne.blogspot.com/2010/05/movida.html

Sunday, May 16, 2010. I first tried to book a table for two on a Sunday night and the lady on the phone laughed at me. Evenings at MoVida seem to book out well in advance, after lunch there today I can see why. The food was amazing. We went for a combination of 3 tapas and 3 racions which was enough food for two. I recommend giving the anchovies and tomato sorbet a try. The special today was the venison, usually I don't eat meat but it was delicious. Open daily, Noon to late. May 16, 2010 at 8:53 PM.
