OFI/OFO: June 2011
http://ofiofo.blogspot.com/2011_06_01_archive.html
One Foot In/One Foot Out". Whenever you close a door, someone is sure to knock. Monday, June 13, 2011. I'm expanding staff, but crossing my fingers that I'll be able to keep them employed in a year. Of course, my job is as on-the-line as theirs. Meaning, this is a rather stressful time, knowing I've got work to do, commitments to fulfill, and a very real, somewhat looming expiration date. Monday, June 6, 2011. The fragility of uncertainty. I wait. Three outstanding proposals. I calculate in my mind alter...

One Foot In/One Foot Out". Whenever you close a door, someone is sure to knock. Wednesday, June 30, 2010. Heading to the Lake House. Have a great Fourth of July. Wednesday, June 23, 2010. Yesterday, I issued an offer of employment to hire a new full-time researcher. That brings the staff to seven (four full time). The two current projects are proceeding. New opportunities have been coming up, for which I expect to prepare proposals. Severe thunderstorm warning. Watch for lightning! Wednesday, June 9, 2010.

OFI/OFO: The Other Side
http://ofiofo.blogspot.com/2010/12/other-side.html
One Foot In/One Foot Out". Whenever you close a door, someone is sure to knock. Thursday, December 2, 2010. I'm heading to the state capital next week to serve on an advisory committee for small businesses. I hope to raise some of these issues in an effort to provide opportunties for those many who could benefit from a similar path to the one I've taken, without so many of the bumps and bruises. How can something like this be done over and over again, semester after semester? December 2, 2010 at 10:16 PM.

OCTOBER 13TH, 2010. 8230; and counting. At this instant, life is good. In the last year of my existence, I feel that quite a few things have improved. I am closer to graduation than ever. Financial worries exist, but are more manageable. MAD and I are still happy being with each other. Hope this year I will get to live instead of exist. Feed for comments on this post. SEPTEMBER 3RD, 2008. I have been wondering about the pros and cons of grad school education in general, and Ph.D. in particular. One thing that most people do not talk about is the opportunity cost of the decision to go to school for 7 more years (2 Masters 5 Ph.D). Exactly how much does one loose in terms of lost earnings? More importantly, how long does it take for us to make up the difference? PS: First post from Google Chrome! September 20, 2008 @ 8:05 pm. By deeply frustated MA student. Insane. ...

JULY 4TH, 2008. Even adults throw tantrums. Here is an email QoH sent out because we didn’t submit his precious little TPS reports on time. To: QoH’s Admin Assistant. CC: All Graduate Students in the lab. Unfortunately, the lab has serious problems, which I could not resolve for several months now. Since I am out of ammunition to communicate my message to students, I think it is best to terminate this ill relationship. Please process the following changes to the payroll and appointments:.
