Las Aventuras de una Maestra Estudiantil!

Wednesday, February 27, 2008. Just a note to add some fun to your day. Yesterday during the Spanish 4 class, my hilarious cooperating teacher was teaching a poem. It is a very cool poem from a cuban poet (Nicolas Guien) who blends African and Spanish to create "poesia negriblanca" This poem is actually a chant. A chant to get psyched up to kill a snake. Cool. Yea I think so too. Stuff them deep down! Stuff them down down down so you will not feel them ever again! Just picture it. You'll laugh. That's rig...

Las Aventuras de una Maestra Estudiantil!: I'll be here all week...

http://www.senoragirasol.blogspot.com/2008/02/ill-be-here-all-week.html

Sunday, February 10, 2008. I'll be here all week. Teaching high school is like being a stand up comic without a microphone. How do you motivate a room full of bored teenagers so that they don't stare at you like you're an alien speaking in tounges? You act like a moron. You dance the cha-cha so they remember the word for "vest" (cha-cha- chaleco! You work your "superlatives" lesson around David Beckham's hotness. You blame it on them when you forget a student in the hallway. Yea I like it.

Las Aventuras de una Maestra Estudiantil!: Who bombed a lesson?

http://www.senoragirasol.blogspot.com/2008/02/who-bombed-lesson.html

Wednesday, February 27, 2008. Who bombed a lesson? Shannon bombed a lesson! That's right. You heard it. I wrote a bad lesson plan and then implemented that crappiness and not surprisingly, got just as crappy results! Okay, so the lesson itself wasn't crappy at all. It was just fine. For juniors, or maybe seniors. Not, however, for freshmen. Noo. definitely not for freshmen. Well it should. But it didn't. Ugh. Great Super. Thanks. Because today. I rocked. So, with that spasm of bad decisions over, I put o...

Monday, January 28, 2008. Black fog of negativity and Doom! That would be my fellow student teacher Kay. Today I drove down to Oshkosh to have the once a week meeting with my University Supervisor and the one other Student Teacher that he supervises. I have never put 100 miles on my car for a less worthy reason. It's good to be back in my world :). Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Las Aventuras de una Maestra Estudiantil! Las Aventuras de una Maestra Estudiantil!: ???

http://www.senoragirasol.blogspot.com/2008/01/blog-post.html

Monday, January 28, 2008. Some questions for the general public -. Why, when you already are carrying a backpack, is it necessary to carry a purse around the high school? Is it really necessary that I see your butt crack when you sit down? Why can't you make a copy of a sheet of paper if it has been 3-hole punched? Cause I am pretty sure you can. Since when is teleconferencing a "highly unorthodox" practice? I thought it was a simple alternative to driving two hours to attend a 45 minute meeting. The lif...

The Life and Times of a Science Teacher: Old Dog, Old Tricks

http://myteachingadventures.blogspot.com/2014/08/old-dog-old-tricks.html

The Life and Times of a Science Teacher. Back to Middle School! Tuesday, August 19, 2014. Old Dog, Old Tricks. Today, after I said, "Okayyy, and when you are done, hold your paper in your air and give me your most gloriously hideous face," a handful did. I modeled what an appropriately horrendous expression would look like. Most just kind of smiled at me. Well, they were just asking for it. Y'all realize that you just told me that you think your normal, perfect faces are hideous right? Posted by Ms. J.

The Life and Times of a Science Teacher: September 2014

http://myteachingadventures.blogspot.com/2014_09_01_archive.html

The Life and Times of a Science Teacher. Back to Middle School! Wednesday, September 10, 2014. I started reading Doug Lemov's new book on deep practice (and learning how to practice) and it really did strike me how different learning in the classroom is from other, deep-practice based, myelin-building, activities. In what other world would we compare one student's success and rate of learning to another? Let's say we were talking about music instead. When she gets her first lesson, she flies. "A! Now, le...

The Life and Times of a Science Teacher: Gangland

http://myteachingadventures.blogspot.com/2013/10/gangland.html

The Life and Times of a Science Teacher. Back to Middle School! Wednesday, October 02, 2013. Over the intercom, our principal started to speak. The heat was too oppressive, crayons were melting at some schools, and our district was letting kids from our school go at 11:30. The kids let out a celebratory cheer (as did the teachers). It was Friday, and we were all a bit exhausted. The school was worried about a bloodbath. Getting all of the kids home and out of the way, so none would be tempted to be part ...

http://myteachingadventures.blogspot.com/2013/08/i-guess-i-was-asking-for-this.html

The Life and Times of a Science Teacher. Back to Middle School! Friday, August 16, 2013. I guess I WAS asking for this. So, I have this kid that was totally great the first week of school. I could tell when he was getting frustrated, but we always found a way to compromise and it was okay. And then I missed a couple days of school for a big event, and when I got back. Shave his deodorant with the cap, and sprinkle it about. Twist up all his chapstick and smash it into the floor. And throws his pen. We ha...

The Life and Times of a Science Teacher: Good to Know

http://myteachingadventures.blogspot.com/2013/08/good-to-know.html

The Life and Times of a Science Teacher. Back to Middle School! Friday, August 16, 2013. Student A: (not working at all). Me: A, why aren't you working? A: I don't want to. I am being lazy. A: Because this is boring. Me: It'd be less boring if you'd try. And time would go faster. I think you know this. Or are you going to prove all those jerks wrong and rise above it? You're smart. Prove them wrong. Rise above! A: (looks at me like he gets it but still, really, really doesn't wanna). Posted by Ms. J.

The Life and Times of a Science Teacher. Back to Middle School! Tuesday, August 19, 2014. Apparently, I see myself as a pirate when I'm 80. I miss you so much! Mila, I have seen you the last two days! I know miss, but I need to see you every. Day, and it has to count, because that way, when I'm 20, then we can be besties.". Mila, you know I'm going to be like, 80 with a peg leg, and an eye patch, and three teeth by that time, right? Its okay. I will take care of you.". My kids from last year are so sweet.

The Life and Times of a Science Teacher. Back to Middle School! Tuesday, July 02, 2013. Oh dear, what has Miss J gone and gotten herself into now? So, today I took the first official tour of my new school. Can it be so? Returning to the classroom! So, let's review experiences in education so far:. 1 5 years spent in Arizona at a Title 1 school teaching self-contained 6th grade (ELL) and 8th grade science. 2 1 year spent at a militaristic school parading as a utopia, teaching 7th grade science. The Life and Times of a Science Teacher. Back to Middle School! Friday, August 16, 2013. My family is gorgeous! Gorgeous, I say! And warm and wonderful. Kid looking at my alumni wall: Some of these kids are UGLY! Me: You're talking about my FAMILY! You just said my family is ugly! You know what's gonna happen to you now? Would you like it if I talked about your family that way? Tough Kid: Awww, Miss is gonna F* * you up! Posted by Ms. J. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). My Favorite Person in the World.

The Life and Times of a Science Teacher: The Problem with Onesies

http://myteachingadventures.blogspot.com/2013/10/the-problem-with-onesies.html

The Life and Times of a Science Teacher. Back to Middle School! Wednesday, October 02, 2013. The Problem with Onesies. We just got back from our first content-sponsored excursion- a 3 night camping trip at a reservoir hours from home. We were off to study climate change's impact on water, observe the reservoirs and watershed, talk about how climate changes could have had an influence Colorado's wildfires, and recent flooding. And, of course, learn how to camp. Ms T took her across the bridge, behind the ...

Tuesday, January 13, 2009. Wednesday, December 17, 2008. By some miracle of God.and I mean that sincerely, the weather has been great. Mom arrived and it was in the mid-fourties which meant a light coat and a cap. On her first day here we went to Namdaemun Market which is a HUGE outdoor/indoor market which offers just about everything imaginable. I love love love this place and knew Mom would dig it so we headed out in the cold. After some serious shopping we went to a little dive around the corner to ea...
