Just another WordPress.com site. Responding to NYT’s Editorial “Don’t Give Up the Gains in Education”. February 22, 2015. February 22, 2015. Today, the New York Times published an editorial. Asking that Congress keeps the yearly testing requirement that NCLB put in place. I do not disagree. A single yearly test can do much to guide a school, and as a teacher, I truly do value when I get good data on my students. (Qualifier: Not all tests produce reliable or good data.). No, I will not be renewing my subscription. Your sensationalistic November 3rd cover fed a public fire of anti-teacher rhetorical and sentiment churning for the past four or five years. Your cover, black and white in both its design and message, wounded. So, no, Time. I will not renew my subscription. January 20, 2015.

Just another WordPress.com site. Don’t Like This. July 9, 2015. Just saw Ezra Klein’s series of Tweets about–. Which make me think of yet another Wisconsin legislative move making me angry…. And then I think of Bruce Feiler Ted Talk. That stated that what kids want most is for their parents to be less stressed. And I think– What are we doing? What are our values? Plickers Engages Students – seeingshadesofgray

Just another WordPress.com site. December 13, 2014. December 13, 2014. Plickers is the most engaging free app I have come across in years. It gets more kids involved in class than anything else I could do. An amazing substitute teacher, Tim Fahlberg, who has some background in technology, used an engaging and really easy to set-up system, Plickers, when he worked for me a day this year. The kids loved it, and Tim was kind enough to explain it all to me and get me started. Where the real instruction begins.

One Teacher's Perspective: Meritless Pursuit of Pay-for-Performance
http://oneteachersperspective.blogspot.com/2013/11/meritless-pursuit-of-pay-for-performance.html
Saturday, November 30, 2013. Meritless Pursuit of Pay-for-Performance. The history of merit pay in schools is almost as old as public education in America. It has failed many times over and in many forms. Many have pursued pay-for-performance (PfP) for teachers as a panacea for alleged public school ills. Progressives and conservatives have promoted it. Both President G.W. Bush and President Obama have supported it. Chapter 12 of Diane Ravitch's brilliant new book, Reign of Error,. The more relevant poin...

Jason L. Knoll. Politics, Policy, and Social Media. July 2, 2015. July 2, 2015. Last night, Gov. Bobby Jindal spoke in Iowa and sent out a tweet. With this image, calling it a “great turnout.”. Also last night, Sen. Bernie Sanders spoke in Madison. Here’s just one photo. Granted, Sen. Sanders has been an official candidate longer than Gov. Jindal, but I think the size of the turnout for the respective candidates speaks volumes on whose ideas resonate more with the voters. Leave a Reply Cancel reply.

I don’t remember how I found out about it then, but it popped up again this year in an article from the German Embassy. Notre Dame football: a photographer's perspective. Could Kelly open up playbook soon? September 11, 2012 by mwek. With Notre Dame’s two toughest tests of the early season looming the next two Saturdays, it may be time for Brian Kelly to expand the playbook. Nay. Not. Against Navy and Purdue, the Irish displayed a rather bland attack. It was straightforward, lacking misdirection, true explosiveness or creativity. Sure, we saw a reverse or two, but not a real diverse plan of attack. Deep passes on the edge...
