Crampons and Cornfields: Freeze-thaw-freeze

http://sarahfortner.blogspot.com/2009/01/freeze-thaw-freeze.html

Adventures of an environmental geochemist. Friday, January 02, 2009. Carla and I have been sampling several times now. Each time, my fingers are becoming more solid as the air temperatures drop. To prevent the loss of sensation in my fingers, I put on layer after layer of clothing, which makes me fumble with the bottles more. Fortunately, Carla is much more dexterous than me. Adventures of an environmental geochemist. Wednesday, April 22, 2009. The microbial underworld, undergraduates, and exciting implications. It has been a while since I've blogged.  I've been sciencing away. Also, Carla and Michael, the two undergrads working with me, have been working up their data on agricultural land alkalinity and tropical glacier silicate weathering, respectively for posters coming up this week and in May! Crampons and Cornfields: Meeting and Mingling

http://sarahfortner.blogspot.com/2008/12/meeting-and-mingling.html

Adventures of an environmental geochemist. Tuesday, December 16, 2008. I'm at an International meeting in San Francisco with other earth scientists. the turnout is amazing. We overfill the escalators and spill out of the lecture halls. There is no shortage of meaningful and inspiring discussions. Also, because the meeting is broad in scope, I've run into friends and mentors from times past. Admittedly, I am exhausted now, but can't wait to do it again tomorrow. Crampons and Cornfields: Proposaling: dreaming or reality?

http://sarahfortner.blogspot.com/2008/11/proposaling-dreaming-or-reality.html

Adventures of an environmental geochemist. Monday, November 24, 2008. Proposaling: dreaming or reality? A few people have asked, where does the money to do earth science come from? I submitted one with Bryan and Jeff and attempt to answer some questions from our previous work in Peru. Why? Will these issues be worse in the dry season with more variable stream flow? Also, think of all the cool things to do with students. Michael and Carla are already calculating dry season weathering rates- but the wet se...

Crampons and Cornfields: 1/18/09 - 1/25/09

http://sarahfortner.blogspot.com/2009_01_18_archive.html

Adventures of an environmental geochemist. Tuesday, January 20, 2009. I have special hope for a new energy policy featuring reduced carbon dioxide emissions. See aforemost NASA scientist's, Dr. Jim Hansen's recent letter Barack and Michele O'Bama. Today I say to you that the challenges we face are real. But know this, America - they will be met. On this day, we gather because we have chosen hope over fear, unity of purpose over conflict and discord.". Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Byrd Polar Research Center.

Peace and Skittles: June 2010

http://peaceandskittles.blogspot.com/2010_06_01_archive.html

Wednesday, June 30, 2010. Happy Social Media Day! I just wanted to celebrate Social Media Day with a blog post! Not that this blog is necessarily social. It's more like an online journal where I also put my YouTube videos and things I think are funny. That's not updated regularly. That no one reads. but that's why it's not social. EXCEPT! That it technically is because it's a blog! This was not meant to be a pity party. I love my random postings about nothing aimed at no one. YAY! Labels: social media day.

It’s not a mug’s game anymore so get out of Canberra. On September 1, 2010. In case you don’t know, Australia doesn’t have a parliament at the moment. We had an election and no one won it. Everybody is talking about what it all means where the major parties went wrong, how it will resolve. Some people are saying that Australia’s hung parliament demonstrates that our political system is ill, the major parties are out of touch, that we need something new.
