AustinBurger's Adventures: November 2011
http://austinburgeradventures.blogspot.com/2011_11_01_archive.html
Last year toured New Mexico - this year Alaska. On a scooter. Wednesday, November 30, 2011. Marlene and I decided to take a little spring break trip this year and test our gear to make sure we could handle a "big" summer trip of scooting and camping. I had plenty of camping. Experience last summer with the trip to Alaska, but we hadn't gone on a significant trip together. We settled on a campground in Concan, TX. And purchased a new tent (the tent cot wouldn't cut it! We set out on the trip after wearily...

Sailing NC to the Caribbean. Thursday, February 17, 2011. Deja' Vu all over again! I'm a month behind due to poor Internet connections in Honduras and the fact that I left the boat and came home to NC for a visit. Pictures and a map can be found at the link for part one of this trip. Very, very rough". Never heard of that before. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile. Sailing NC to the Caribbean: January 2011
http://caribbeancruzin.blogspot.com/2011_01_01_archive.html
Sailing NC to the Caribbean. Thursday, January 13, 2011. Surprise, another update and from a Republic other than Honduras! We were closer to Havana than to Key West and fought the seas for 16 hours to get back to Key West. We repaired the traveler, the main sheet blocks, the main sail and added addition reefing capability. Key West for a few beers and some dead cow tonight and to check out my buddy Big Ern's favorite bar, then back towards Honduras noonish. Wednesday, January 5, 2011. 80 Degrees and Sunny.

AustinBurger's Adventures: Dodging Icebergs
http://austinburgeradventures.blogspot.com/2010/07/dodging-icebergs.html
Last year toured New Mexico - this year Alaska. On a scooter. Wednesday, July 28, 2010. The brochure I read made it sound very complicated, but basically they added some safety shelters along the length of the tunnel and put concrete between the rails so you could drive through there. The tunnel is open for 15 minutes for one direction, then closed for 15 for trains to go through, then open for 15 minutes for the other traffic direction, then the trains get it again. We left most of our stuff outside and...

AustinBurger's Adventures: May 2010
http://austinburgeradventures.blogspot.com/2010_05_01_archive.html
Last year toured New Mexico - this year Alaska. On a scooter. Sunday, May 23, 2010. Yet another outfitting trip. After last night's aching back I decided I needed a new sleeping pad. I bought the other one at least 25 years ago and something is apparently different about my body. Hmmm. I suggested to Marlene that we hop on the scooters and head to Cabela's. I have owned my Burgman 650. I began my planning by checking online to see who else has done this - and found that a fellow BurgmanUSA. I purchased a...

AustinBurger's Adventures: Destruction Bay - one more time
http://austinburgeradventures.blogspot.com/2010/07/destruction-bay-one-more-time.html
Last year toured New Mexico - this year Alaska. On a scooter. Wednesday, July 28, 2010. Destruction Bay - one more time. We decided that a 600 mile day that included the northern part of the Alaska Highway was too far, but in the end it was a 500 mile day due to our early stop the night before. It's certainly the part that people have driven the highway before are talking about when they say you need a really good suspension on whatever you're driving, but if you are slow and careful it is not a problem.

AustinBurger's Adventures: August 2010
http://austinburgeradventures.blogspot.com/2010_08_01_archive.html
Last year toured New Mexico - this year Alaska. On a scooter. Friday, August 6, 2010. Harsh climate. The further we rode this day, the bigger the trees were, and soon we began to see signs of logging. We chatted for a while about what we'd all been through on our amazing experiences, and exchanged information about the road and how to get in touch later, then I was back on the bike for another few hours to the next gas station. I imagined that they were building some shelters for the skiers somewhere on ...

AustinBurger's Adventures: June 2010
http://austinburgeradventures.blogspot.com/2010_06_01_archive.html
Last year toured New Mexico - this year Alaska. On a scooter. Tuesday, June 15, 2010. Just what I needed. While waiting for the dealer to service my scooter today I had 4-1/2 hours to browse the "accessories" section and I ended up purchasing cool gloves, warm gloves, a thing I can soak in water to cool my head, a helmet liner to warm my head, a new visor for my helmet so I can see and riding pants made of mesh. Wednesday, June 9, 2010. We leave in less than one month! Labels: scooters vacation alaska.
