Rock damage from Steed. Here's what happens to an unprotected big ring at Steed. This is actually the big ring on my old bike. This particular big ring has about 6 to 8 months riding only on it, of course most of that was at Steed last year. These are big so you can see the detail. Sign as you enter Lake Steed from 183. NOTE: Due to highway construction I think they've taken this sign out. Their is a similar smaller sign that is further up the entrance road making it harder to see. How's this for a view?

If you don't like my edits to the maps just head out to Mapquest. And look for: Snyder, Roosevelt, or Hobart OK. This is a wide view showing major cities and the basic map. Amarillo is just out of the picture to the left (west), but if you are coming from that direction just hit I-40 and head east until you get to Clinton. OKC, Lawton, and Altus are all visible so you shouldn't have any trouble seeing those. NOTE: As you are heading north out of Blair on HW283 you'll reach a point where 283 veers off to ...

Thursday, February 16, 2012. Just west of the Wichita Mountains is Lake Tom Steed. There are 7 miles of desert trail here- complete with rattlesnakes, and lots of rocks. The Mountian bike crowd calls this a very technical trail, and I am sure we as trail runners would rate it similiarly. There is a trail in there- somewhere. From reading on the webppage below, it sounds like it might actually be a good run- in cooler months of the year. Click here for a mt bike webpage about these trailz.
