Butterflies

I caught a lovely butterfly just the other day. I took it home and mounted it and put it on display. I longed to see that butterfly fluttering its wings. Instead, I all I saw was a still and lifeless thing. Butterflies are lovely when they're flying all around. Soaring through the air without making any sound. But the beauty of a butterfly won't last unless it's flying free. And now I understand the freedom your spirit longs to see. I went back to the field where they were hovering all around.

I come here to this still and quiet place. Far from the troubles of the weary day. Just a chance to meet you face to face. To listen to what you would have to say. Sometimes I really don't understand. Why you would ever want to be with me. You tell me that you had my whole life planned. Just to knit us together for eternity. When you draw me close, I know I'm not alone. I can feel the warmth of your presence covering me. I'm changing, my heart's no longer stone. I've made tragic mistakes, I've been untrue.

I woke up this morning, things just didn't seem the same. So I looked outside my window and wondered what happened to the rain. The sun was warm and bright and the birds were all in flight. Something strange had happened to me in the middle of the night. I felt this strange peace well up from deep inside of me. I really could not understand how it could ever be. The beauty of this life had always felt so far away. I only saw black darkness in the middle of the day. C) 2010 Robert E. Jackson.

I could not come up with a suitable title for this, so I left it untitled. Some day it will come to me. It is about someone who built walls of logic to shut the world out. When the walls collapsed, he found out how much he missed. I know how things go together. With a step to reach every place. There's a rule for everything here. An answer for each problem I face. I know that I'm not creative. I need to see each chart and line. So where are these words coming from now? These thoughts that fill my mind?
