Urge Congress to Protect the 340B Program. For more than 20 years, the 340B Drug Pricing Program has provided safety-net hospitals with financial relief from high prescription drug costs. Hospitals use these savings to stretch scarce federal resources to reduce the price of pharmaceuticals for patients, expand services offered to patients and provide services to more patients. Metropolitan Chicago hospitals are prepared for the October 1 transition to ICD-10 and have already expended considerable time and resources to ensure they will be ready to comply. Considering the significant costs they already incurred preparing for the earlier transition date that was postponed until this year, it is especially important that the new coding system be implemented without further setbacks.
