Rabbi Z Blog: September 2006

http://rabbizamek.blogspot.com/2006_09_01_archive.html

Wednesday, September 6. Story in the San Francisco. Reporter Dan Pine recently interviewed me for a “Rita- one year later” story. The story is quite good, but I wish he had reminded Bay Area readers of the help we had received from our friends in San Francisco and Berkeley. Read the story at http:/ www.jewishsf.com/content/2-0-/module/displaystory/story id/30067/format/html/displaystory.html. Posted by Rabbi Stanton M. Zamek at 2:21 AM. Rabbi Stanton M. Zamek. Rabbi Z Blog: July 2006

http://rabbizamek.blogspot.com/2006_07_01_archive.html

Saturday, July 8. First session and our time here are both winding down. Shabbat evening at camp was beautiful as usual. During services, Tessa, the art director, created a painting illustrating the story “If Not Higher” about the mysterious Rabbi of Nemirov. Meanwhile, behind the chapel, the geese skated noiselessly across the lake, while the swallows zoomed in pursuit of mosquitos and three massive vultures found their roosts for the night. Thursday, September 29. Where we are today. The sanctuary and the social are rapidly becoming a steel and cinderblock shell. The walls were compromised by water and they all must go. Very soon all the demolition and cleaning work will be done. We are having another volunteer workday at shul on Sunday morning. The seats are being moved back into the bare sanctuary so the social hall can be used for the lunches on first and second day Rosh HaShanah. Posted by Rabbi Stanton M. Zamek at 1:35 PM. Rabbi Z Blog: October 2005

http://rabbizamek.blogspot.com/2005_10_01_archive.html

Wednesday, October 19. Back home for Shabbes. Saturday morning was no different than any Shabbes morning. We davened in the green room, which was relatively untouched by Rita. Now that there are no ark curtains and such drying in there the space is useable. Some mitzvot can be accomplished in an instant. This one cannot:. Let them build me a sanctuary that I might dwell among them. Posted by Rabbi Stanton M. Zamek at 5:51 AM. Sunday, October 9. Return, O Israel, to the LORD your God. Shabbat Shuvah, 5766.

Almost Kosher: Tina Fey as Sarah Palin

http://almostkosher.blogspot.com/2008/09/tina-fey-as-sarah-palin.html

My post-Jewish conversion journey. Sunday, September 14, 2008. Tina Fey as Sarah Palin. No one is smarter than their criteria. Though the election is over, Gov. Sarah is being attacked by the leftist-humanists because they fear her re-appearance on a future ballot. They are afraid and rightly so! She is a perceptive excellent candidate to represent the Founders Principles and our American way of life with intelligent courage. Almost Kosher: Is Israel Finished?

http://almostkosher.blogspot.com/2008/04/is-israel-finished.html

My post-Jewish conversion journey. Sunday, April 13, 2008. While the cover is unnecessarily provocative, the Atlantic Monthly has a good article exploring the issues facing Israel and she turns 60. You can read the article here. I read the article and had the same reaction. the article didn't get into any real endgame scenarios or even touch on the possibilities. Which is fine by me, but it left me wondering why the dramatic cover and headline. April 23, 2008 at 3:00 PM. March 13, 2010 at 7:52 AM. From T...

Almost Kosher: December 2007

http://almostkosher.blogspot.com/2007_12_01_archive.html

My post-Jewish conversion journey. Tuesday, December 18, 2007. Chinese food on Christmas. Monday, December 10, 2007. We spent the weekend in Vancouver, B.C. celebrating Chanukkah with the in-laws. My Mother-In-Law made the most delicious latkes I've had in years. She also served a wonderful brisket on the side, which sparked an interesting question for me. If she served tofu, dairy-free sour cream with it, would it be considered kosher? Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Just another bloggin' Jew. View my compl...

Almost Kosher: One year later...

http://almostkosher.blogspot.com/2009/09/one-year-later.html

My post-Jewish conversion journey. Monday, September 28, 2009. My previous post was almost a year ago, at the end of Yom Kippur. Here I am in the same spot, just breaking the fast and blogging. It's funny how experiences can change from year to year; I wondered if this is what many other Jews experience - the ebb and flow of services feeding some part of them and then not. In spite of this, the holidays themselves have been meaningful so far.in particular, visiting the mikeveh before RH was fantastic.

My post-Jewish conversion journey. Saturday, February 16, 2008. I am off to Israel tomorrow for 10 days, and then to Jordan and Egypt. I am excited nervous, and mostly in awe of where I am going to be the next few weeks. I do not know what to expect from the experience, but I expect it will be like nothing I have ever done before. My post-Jewish conversion journey. Sunday, September 14, 2008. Over the summer, I took some time off from blogging. After my wonderful Bar Mitzvah experience, I needed a breather to focus on some other things over the summer. It is good to be back. The following is a collection of reflections that I had during Shabbat services yesterday). I recently finished reading the book, Jews and Power. Torah From the Holy Land

Torah From the Holy land. Wishing You a Kosher Pesach. The Torah states, A man (adam) who shall bring near of you an offering to God. Midrash Tanchuma comments:. Why does God use the word adam for “man” (instead of the more common synonym ish )? To teach us that a person cannot offer to God what has not been honestly obtained by him. God is saying: When you bring an offering to Me, be like Adam the first man, who could not have stolen from anyone, since he was alone in the world.”. Perhaps our Torah port...
