Just another WordPress.com site. Are there benefits to gaining a strong statistical background? We encounter statistics frequently in everyday life, from adverts on TV to political party policies, but do we really understand what they mean? The newspaper, The Sun used the statistic that UK employment levels rose, but 90.1% of them were ‘foreigners’ in order to reinforce their opinion however this statistic may not be the full story, and there may be other contributing factors to explain the statistic.

Just another WordPress.com site. How reliable are studies? March 11, 2012. Every day we see statements in newspapers or on the TV that try to influence our decisions and choices by claiming that research has demonstrated that something is useful or effective. Type 1 error is when a researcher reports that there is a significant difference when there is not, and the Type 2 error is when a researcher reports there is no significant difference when there actually is one. It has been said that the type 1 error is worse than the type 2 error (Thomas, 2012) and I am going to discuss whether that is always the case. An example, a new drug treating cancer is discovered:. I think this was an interesting po...
