Head Stuffing: September 2013
http://headstuffing.blogspot.com/2013_09_01_archive.html
Saturday, September 14, 2013. I think Mother Nature must be going through menopause. Hot flashes one day, cold flashes the next; and the gusty winds and thunderstorms. But this morning the air is still and the sky is blue. And the sun light is bright with a slight tint of orangey yellow. The dew that dropped out of the sky has coated everything on the ground with a thick coat of wet. I guess it's time to consider that summer is over and fall is starting. But not yet, at least not today. There's a humming...

Head Stuffing: July 2015
http://headstuffing.blogspot.com/2015_07_01_archive.html
Sunday, July 19, 2015. This summer has been really busy. Here in Windsor, I think a new rainfall record was set for the month of June. But it never really impacted the fast-pitch softball schedule of practices and tournaments of the travel team my daughter’s play for. So we stayed really busy. So our home has suffered for it. I still need to open the pool. I know, we are in the second half of July now. I know. But it just keeps raining. But not today. This is my first weekend to attack these chores. ...

Head Stuffing: May 2015

Tuesday, May 12, 2015. Pitching to Towering Redheads. This story is true, I swear it's true, especially the parts I made up. My daughters' fast pitch team played a tournament in middle Michigan last weekend. In the first game of the tournament, they faced their toughest challenge in a team wearing red jerseys. These girls were at the older end of the age bracket with fourteen and fifteen year old girls. Our team was a year or two younger. Alannah threw her best pitches at her, but the third pitch caught ...

Head Stuffing: May 2014

Saturday, May 31, 2014. Time Enough For Me. Again another summer is rolling into our little burg on the cusp both Canada and the United States – nestled into a quiet corner along the bordering Detroit River. The breeze is warmer each morning as I sit on the back deck by the pool listening to the water flow around the pools edge, the ever so gentle hum of the pump that moves it. And of course, my faithful black lab Suzy, yet another year older, laying on the deck at my feet. There's just so much going on.

Head Stuffing: October 2012
http://headstuffing.blogspot.com/2012_10_01_archive.html
Saturday, October 13, 2012. Our Boys of Summer Play On. The first half of October is a visual smorgasbord here in southwestern Ontario. The reds, the golds, the browns …. The frost …. The end .,. Still there are remnants of summer past left lying around … the ball diamonds still have players practicing, the decks all still have tables with umbrellas unfurled, the sun still feels warm to the skin as it reaches its daily apex. Thank god there's still ball. I much prefer the old Turtle Club logo. As sil...

Head Stuffing: November 2012
http://headstuffing.blogspot.com/2012_11_01_archive.html
Tuesday, November 20, 2012. Remembrance Day has come and gone again. My Dad’s birthday was November 11th or Remembrance Day here in Canada. Everyone here dons a red poppy pinned to their lapel to remember our fallen soldiers. When I was a little boy, I always felt bad for Dad having a birthday on Remembrance Day – because everyone would be remembering other people and nobody would remember his birthday. Birthdays are important when you’re a little boy. My Dad had some really great sayings. This year I wa...

Head Stuffing: December 2012

Monday, December 31, 2012. Ringing Out and In. Time is running out for the year 2012. The whole world – at least the parts that count years the same way we do – are prepping for the big celebrations. It’s quite silly that we do make such a big deal about all this New Year stuff. Anything for a party I guess. I’m not against the “anything for a party” line of thinking, but really, we are simply incrementing the year counter by one. Ya got to love the human race. I only played one round of golf this year&#...

Head Stuffing: June 2013
http://headstuffing.blogspot.com/2013_06_01_archive.html
Saturday, June 22, 2013. I got a buddy, eh . I don’t care much for self-proclaimed experts. For all that I have met, there is one guy who sits at the top of my list. When I was a younger man, still living in London, I played on a fastpitch softball team with some friends and we were a pretty good team. And for every subject there seemed to be a different buddy. It drove me nuts, and the tripe that spewed. Out of his mouth after declaring his buddy status was usually quite useless. A fellow I work with wh...

Head Stuffing: January 2014
http://headstuffing.blogspot.com/2014_01_01_archive.html
Saturday, January 18, 2014. Wildcats and Turtles and Disharmonous Harmony. Here we sit at the middle of January, and all that is green is buried in white. The skies filled with those big grey and purple clouds that hang low packed with snow. Sometimes it falls. Sometimes it doesn’t. Sometimes I shovel it. Sometimes I wait for next week’s thaw to clear the laneway for me. But summer ball is right around the corner. Yes, it’s a very wide corner still but it’s there on the horizon’s horizon. None of these c...
