Winter Foraging - January 30th 2016. Off to Lopwell Dam near Dartmoor we ventured for our 'Introduction to Foraging in Winter' workshop. Most people would be thinking that there wouldn't be anything to forage in Mid Winter! Well, little did we know. Arriving in the carpark, we admired the view across the Tamar river at high tide, followed by a cup of tea and some delicious flapjacks made by Chris. Julz certainly enjoyed her cup of tea and the view! Chris in his new PEA t-shirt! Full of vitamin C! Gatheri...

Today we head to Aveton Gifford, in South Devon for some bracken bashing. What is bracken bashing I hear you say? Well let me explain. Bracken is a native plant but it is very invasive. Bracken bashing" describes the hitting of growing bracken with sticks or pipe so that the stem bends over. The bracken then dies off as it puts energy into uprighting itself. Why do we do it? PEA's new volunteers in action. Brandon giving us a demo. Hayley tackling the bracken. The bracken after the PEA team of bashed it.

Stonewalling at Tamar Lakes 23rd May 2015. Today we headed back down to Tamar Lakes in Cornwall. Our task for this session was too complete the two sections of stonewall that we had begun to restore back in April,. First though Chris had to start things off by getting his 'Tea-making Mantra'. Don't worry, Esther's grumpy face will fade once. The caffeine hits her blood stream. After the tea break kickstart the PEA team got stuck in. It's very important that you compact the soil. By the lakeside no less.

Meadow Restoration-18th October 2015. This week we met up again with our friends Craig and Izzy for a spot of. Meadow restoration at Longmarsh in Tontes. Izzy was raring to go! As Chris gave our new volunteer a quick tool talk demo on how to properly rake a meadow. Izzy was already getting stuck in. The purpose of removing all this dead cut grass is to encourage wildflowers to grow. As Wildflowers are low nutrient growers, they require very little dead matter-ala the dead grass-to transfer into nutrients.

Thorn Park Garden Restoration and Mini-Bus Scrub 25th July 2015. This week we headed off 'all so far' - a 10 minute journey to. Thorn Park, just North of the city centre of Plymouth. With an ample team today we were ready to assist with the ongoing. Restoration of these Victorian medical gardens based right in the heart of the city. The beds have grown wild and the walls crumbled, so it's really in need of the. Ongoing TLC which it's receiving from the regular garden volunteers. And the odd newt or two!
