This week I've watched all of the Star Wars movies in order in their entirety . Watching the Phantom Menace was painful, but I toughed it out. So while this post has a point and is important towards explaining my work in Kazakhstan, it is also full of nerdiness. Warned you, I have. This can lead to grant chasing, which is an awful problem. By my definition, gran...

When I was back in America, a lot of friends and family asked me “what do people eat in Kazakhstan that is different from the US? 8221; Horse meat was usually the first thing that came to my mind, as it is eaten in Kazakhstan, but not in America. I got some interesting looks from people when I said this, but not as many as I thought. My organization and I had a collective "WTF? What can I say? Links to this post.

I haven't been everywhere, but it's on my list. - Susan Sontag. Monday, May 25, 2009. So, my PCV friends are actually fairly talented writers themselves (3 of my closest friends are actually English majors as well). The week in Merke has been written up by a couple of other friends as well as myself, and they might have explained it better, as they actually have internet and can write gracefully instead of hurriedly and spastically. Written May 30, 2009. Summer, Summer, Summer! Written May 26, 2009.

Sunday, June 14, 2009. Well, summer camp has begun! Although instead of being overnight camp, it’s day camp, until camp camp opens, which may happen this week! Then back to camp at 4pm for outside activities, crafts, movie time, dinner, discos, and free time until 8pm when I went back home. The bus I usually take home stops running at 8 again leaving me to wonder why I don’t live closer to my school…? Thursday, June 4, 2009. The Workshop began with journals and journal decorating! That was followed by di...

Take the step...: July 2009

Sunday, July 26, 2009. I arrived back to site (from Almaty) on Thursday morning. The same day that the circus was in Balkhash! And my site mate and I had tickets! The lion really didn’t do anything except walked out on stage for a bit and walked in a circle. I think it was supposed to do tricks, but didn’t. There was a ginormous snake that the circus man put in his mouth! Other circus acts included clowns juggling fire, dancers, a woman ate fire and one girl even walked on knives! Friday, July 24, 2009.
