Wednesday, February 9, 2011. THE CONGRESS MINISTRIES [1937-1939]. Elections held in 1937 under Govt. of India Act 1935. Muslim League and Congress took part; Jinnah re-invited into politics by Liaquat Ali Khan and elected permanent president of Muslim League in 1934. Self-rule for Indians, provincial autonomy. Congress won and formed government in 8 out of 11 provinces. It refused to acknowledge minority interests. Muslim League did not win many seats even in Punjab and Bengal, and had to form coalitions.
