Top Plants for the Autumn Flower Garden - Oxonian Gardener

http://oxoniangardener.co.uk/top-plants-autumn-garden-801

Top Plants for the Autumn Flower Garden. Sunday, 13 November, 2011. Some plants fare better than others when it comes late flowering potential and over the years some favourites have surfaced. Attempts to limit this list to ten plants, failed miserably. Therefore, in no particular order (as also proved too difficult), my top fifteen;. Eryngium Yuccifolium and Lychnis Coronaria. Aster Latiferflorus Lady in Black. Phlox Paniculata Blue Paradise. Favourite fifteen late flowering plants. Surprisingly uncommo...

Jostaberry: Worth growing? - How to Prune - Oxonian Gardener

http://oxoniangardener.co.uk/jostaberry-chance-saloon-3950

Jostaberry: Last Chance Saloon. Sunday, 11 March, 2012. Meet our rather adventurous 2009 purchase, Rubus Nidigrolaria; the Jostaberry. Developed in Europe, the Jostaberry is a thornless cross between the Blackcurrant and the Gooseberry. Results to date have been poor to say the least. This, the Olympic year, is its last chance to determine its future; compost heap or eternal sorbet/crumble rich prospects. Score for supermarket shelf absentia, how could anyone resist? Fruit Cage: Man's best friend. Just a...

Away with the birds : Attracting birds to your garden

http://oxoniangardener.co.uk/birds-12271

Away with the birds: Ornithological theatrics. Friday, 03 July, 2015. My very own Cousteau moment. Without the aqualung. Or the French passport. Or the sea for that matter. On account of my affection for garden birds, this spring yours truly spent considerable time, attempting to impersonate a wildlife paparazzo, photographing delightful birdies in the garden. An exercise aimed to produce a lustrous feature, befitting. James Alexander-Sinclair for intoGardens. April 5, 2014. March 18, 2014. March 26, 2014.

Books - Oxonian Gardener

http://oxoniangardener.co.uk/books

The New Kitchen Garden. Mark Diacono - Saltyard Books (31 Mar 2015). The New Kitchen Garden is a marvel, where with humorous charm, experience and generosity, Diacono wades through horticultural convention, questioning the compulsion for prosaic planting, in order to, as the good man writes; ‘uncurl your fingers from accepted approaches and familiar choices’. Daffodil: The Remarkable Story of the World’s Most Popular Spring Flower. Noel Kingsbury (30 Jan 2014). Noel Kingsbury’s latest oeuvre; ‘. Remarkab...

Electric Green: The Great Snowdrop Experiment*

http://naomislade-electricgreen.blogspot.com/2014/01/the-great-snowdrop-experiment.html

Tuesday, 28 January 2014. The Great Snowdrop Experiment*. It may or may not be common knowledge that I have a book out this year. It is on snowdrops* , for which I have a lifelong love and appreciation. This is clearly not the same thing as having a humungeous collection of rarities. If you want such a thing, go and talk to my friend Joe Sharman. Where that is concerned, he's the boy. Published by Timber Press. Out in the US in April, the rest of you will have to wait. One of my snowdrops. G nivalis.

Electric Green: October 2014

http://naomislade-electricgreen.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html

Wednesday, 1 October 2014. A letter to my snowdrop-loving friends, after E. A. Bowles. My Dear Galanthophil*,. I am writing to you in some excitement: my book, The Plant Lover’s Guide to Snowdrops is finally released in the UK. By now you may even have a copy, in which case I hope you are enjoying it. There are, as you know, different sorts of books on Galanthus. The terribly serious academic ones, the terribly gorgeous arty ones, and mine. So what’s it all about? Well may you ask. So what delighted me m...

Electric Green: January 2012

http://naomislade-electricgreen.blogspot.com/2012_01_01_archive.html

Sunday, 8 January 2012. I also took some pictures of moss and lichen. It looks like I have entered into a diabolical pact over trees and tree planting. I am holding my ground, but when pressed as to why it could not be removed when the main groundworks take place I admitted that some of my indecision hung on the fact that specimen trees are not exactly cheap. At which point I was told that if the willow went, a replacement would be paid for – up to a point. 8211; perhaps too slow growing;. Fear not gentl...

A Little Bit About Me. A Life in Wellies. Asymp; 20 Comments. I can’t believe how quickly this year has whizzed past. As this is only my third post of the year, *looks sheepishly at screen*, it probably goes without saying I’ve found it hard to keep up with work, gardening and other commitments. Something had to give and unfortunately that turned out to be this blog. Sarah will be on hand to offer advice on how to arrange – have a look at her Instagram feed. Oxonians

The journal for all former, current, future and wanna-be Oxonians! Jun 12th, 2010 @ 03:01 pm. I'll be starting an MSt in English at Oxford this fall and am looking to rent a room in a shared student house. I'm an international student and won't be able to check any of the places I'm looking at out in person. I also know next to nothing about Oxford as a city. So my question: what are considered nice/desirable areas for postgrads to live? Any neighborhoods you'd recommend avoiding? ETA: I'll be at Pembroke.
