thoughts for life: May 2005
http://audiblethoughts.blogspot.com/2005_05_01_archive.html
Tuesday, May 24, 2005. The Bravest Love of all. I have recently being looking at love and what it is. A couple of experiences I've had recently have brought the topic to the surface and have piqued my interest in the subject. I'm looking at love in terms of the love between a man and a woman. In our modern day, what is love? Is it being nice? Is it being willing to die for the other person. Where does sex fit in? Can you have love without sex? How are you a good lover? But you may ask, what is love reall...

thoughts for life: April 2005
http://audiblethoughts.blogspot.com/2005_04_01_archive.html
Saturday, April 30, 2005. In South Africa you can pretty much buy anything you like while waiting at robots (traffic lights). In Cape Town, one of the things you can buy is a double sided A4 page with jokes on it. The page I bought today contains the following probably familiar but evergreen insert. Since my last report, this employee has reached rock bottom and has. I would not allow this employee to breed. This employee is really not so much of a has-been, but more of a. Links to this post. A ui is som...

thoughts for life: Suffering and the Sovereignty of God
http://audiblethoughts.blogspot.com/2007/06/suffering-and-sovereignty-of-god.html
Monday, June 11, 2007. Suffering and the Sovereignty of God. The other day a friend ask me about suffering in this world, the classic argument, if God is loving, why does he let bad things happen? A question often asked by people and the obvious tension is as follows. Either God is loving and not Sovereign, or he is Sovereign and not Loving. That is the conundrum. Because if either one of the above statements were true then it would make sense of the situation. A A world where God is not sovereign. So yo...

thoughts for life: March 2005
http://audiblethoughts.blogspot.com/2005_03_01_archive.html
Wednesday, March 23, 2005. I can remember, when I was in under grad, my brother said to me that when you're stuck on a programming problem then just add another class (the word class in this article is used to refer to interfaces and abstract classes as well as concrete classes). At the time I don't think he or I understood how profound that statement is. How often does one come to code and found just two classes that do too many things, and then scratch ones head trying to figure out what's going on.

thoughts for life: The test of language
http://audiblethoughts.blogspot.com/2008/06/test-of-language.html
Tuesday, June 17, 2008. The test of language. Occasionally I let some of the children who live in my block play on my Nintendo Wii (what an awesome console). On the weekend four of us were playing "Mario Kart Wii". One of the best games available for the Wii. I heard one of the children say, when they were knocked off the track "you suck! Now that is something I say so I know where they got it from, and I do not think it particularly inappropriate to say that. Posted by Michael Wiles at 2:57 PM.

thoughts for life: Living Dangerously
http://audiblethoughts.blogspot.com/2006/09/living-dangerously_19.html
Tuesday, September 19, 2006. Standing on the rock, looking down over an expanse of water. Deep enough to swallow up a tank, my body is saying, don't do it, you're going to die, my head is saying, thousands of people have done it and survivied, you've seen them with your own eyes. But from 20 metres the water looks small and I'm not convinced. My survival instinct is still saying no. Now, you might ask, what has this got to do with the Christian life? Posted by Michael Wiles at 12:40 PM. I read a book a w...

thoughts for life: January 2006
http://audiblethoughts.blogspot.com/2006_01_01_archive.html
Tuesday, January 31, 2006. What has faith got to do with Valentines day? With the advent of a new year, one cannot help but reminisce about the old year. I would concede that it might be a little late to be reminiscing about 2005 since we are already fully into 2006. 2006 has started without my noticing. Anyway. this is a post which I've been meaning to write for a long time but never had the guts, well here I am. And for those people who know me, they'll tell you it's not something I do easily. The only...

thoughts for life: Reframing the Vocation...
http://audiblethoughts.blogspot.com/2007/03/reframing-vocation.html
Monday, March 05, 2007. Recently I have had the blessing of a salary increase. It was a very significant raise such that I now have a lot of surplus money. Up till this time I have not really been able to afford to give significant money to the church, and with the raise, even after more than doubling my contribution to the church, I am still able to enjoy (is that the right word), more money at the end of the month. What has that meant? That brings me to what I'm really trying to say. I think the way I ...

thoughts for life: July 2005
http://audiblethoughts.blogspot.com/2005_07_01_archive.html
Tuesday, July 19, 2005. What happened to the stories? I can remember, every Sunday, going to Church Sunday school. This is where we were regaled with tales of heroics, deception and adventure. Tales of God acting in the lives of simple people. Tales of Seas being parted and Giants being felled by simple shepherd boys. This was the di riguer approach of the day. Biblical Theolgy has fairly recently started filtering down into the "church on the street". In every culture there is a vast amount of "lore"...
