Sunday in Trapani Sicily
http://www.budgettraveltalk.com/2015/05/18/sunday-trapani-sicily
May 18, 2015. Ten Weeks in Europe 2015. Sunday in Trapani Sicily. Thunder rumbled through our last night in Palermo. And sure enough, just before we began our Sunday Morning walk to the bus station, the rain started. Luckily for us, traffic was light and we were left in peace to negotiate puddles and dodge drips. The glazing sealant at the bus station was non existent and it was raining. The room. With the floor puddles encroaching further and further people vacated their seats. Very close to the water&#...

Sharing My Italy…The Blog. A blog about Italy, its culture, language, cuisine, art, design, destinations and more…. A sunny dish for this rainy day: Zucchini alla scapece. Oh my . . . how long has it been! So long that I almost feel as intimidated as I was when I wrote my first post. In fact, one of the reason why I haven’t been writing is because I did not know how to come back. I kept thinking: “Am I supposed to explain my absence or just pretend I never left? Last month, on my FaceBook. Bread In my fa...

Cath's Cache: Just in time for my roses!
http://cathscache.blogspot.com/2015/05/just-in-time-for-my-roses.html
Just in time for my roses! Those of you who know me will know that I'm rose-obsessed. Over the last few weeks I've been worried that my 15 climbers and bushes would bloom before I returned to Italy. Whilst in Australia, I emailed my friends regularly with demands for "The Status of the Roses". Every response threatened progress:. They have green shoots" or. The buds are just forming" or. The flowers will be blooming within days" or. Here's a photo of my first rose". It seems I did. Our garden is a jungle.

A day at the beautiful Italian lakes. With the weather promising warm sunshine and blue sky mid-week, we took off to Stresa on Lago Maggiore! The day was as beautiful as it promised.and we even saw the Giro d'Italia, which tracked right through the centre of Stresa! My roses blooming on a stormy day. I cant resist sharing the view of my roses on a stormy morning. We are seeing the light again! I feel human again. He found an electrical box with wires in it buried outside our lounge! When I look at old ph...

Cath's Cache: Fienile renovation...the openings have been created
http://cathscache.blogspot.com/2015/04/fienile-renovationthe-openings-have.html
Fienile renovation.the openings have been created. Over the last couple of days Sandro has been shaping the various openings in the upper fienile. He had previously installed huge wooden beams above each opening in order to support the stonework above and around the spaces. These beams are 3 deep because the stone walls are about half a metre thick. The addition of this wood creates authenticity and complements the house, which also has wooden beams over its windows and doors. After roughly shaping these...

A lot of masked people.and two tourists. This morning we went to Asti for the main purpose of watching the city's Carnevale parade which was to be held in the afternoon. An antique market was in progress so we spent a lovely hour wandering past the stalls, laughing at some of the items and mulling over others. I managed to buy a 1908 Wedgewood plate for a good price before I was dragged away by Stu and our friends to find a good place for lunch. The fear of having to tell our friends that we had gone to ...

Cath's Cache: Fienile renovation...we have a roof!
http://cathscache.blogspot.com/2015/03/fienile-renovationwe-have-roof.html
Fienile renovation.we have a roof! We have a roof! The rafters were brought up by the lifting mechanism and placed on the beams using a very fast process of lift, measure, nail.lift, measure, nail. The terracotta tiles were placed in much the same way: lift, fit tile clip, place tile.lift, fit tile clip, place tile. In no time at all the entire roof was striped in rafters and decorated with our lovely old re-used multi coloured terracotta tiles. April 1, 2015 at 10:15 AM. Almost ready for indoor rugby!
