Sensei Says: The Mirror
http://crkf.blogspot.com/2012/04/mirror.html
Friday, 6 April 2012. A mirror can be a scary thing. If it is the kind of mirror you see at a fun house, it skews the way we perceive ourselves and shows us things that aren't true. On the other hand, when a mirror is perfectly flat an clean, it can be even MORE scary because it is showing us EXACTLY what we are. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile. Sensei Says: Tournaments and how to use them
http://crkf.blogspot.com/2013/04/tournaments-and-how-to-use-them.html
Monday, 8 April 2013. Tournaments and how to use them. I have mixed feelings about tournaments. For some things they are excellent and for others, abysmal. I think that, like everything, tournaments are a tool that can be used or abused and that people should look carefully at them to be sure that they are in the right hands, being used the right way. The most important question for a Sensei or a student with respect to tournaments is, "why are we doing this? 17 April 2013 at 07:47. Picture Window templa...

Sensei Says: June 2011
http://crkf.blogspot.com/2011_06_01_archive.html
Thursday, 30 June 2011. Summer is thought by many to be the best time of year. The weather is beautiful, there's no school (if you're young enough for that to apply), basically there's nothing to do but enjoy lots of sun, lots of family time and lots of time off. And for a lot of people, it means a break from karate. All in all, whether or not I will see you in class this Summer I would like to leave you with this:. Enjoy your Summer, but keep practising so you'll enjoy the Fall even more! I've just star...

Sensei Says: Gradings
http://crkf.blogspot.com/2011/11/gradings.html
Thursday, 10 November 2011. Let's be honest. Everyone hates being graded. It is a learning experience and a great way to see where you are at with your karate training, but it's also a pretty awful process just about every time. When preparing for a grading/exam/test, there are two widely accepted ways:. 1 Practice really hard for a really long time and only attend a grading when your Sensei yells at you about advancing and how you are taking too long. 40 years," says the Master. "Master, I don't und...

Sensei Says: A martial art... A lifestyle
http://crkf.blogspot.com/2011/08/martial-art-lifestyle.html
Sunday, 7 August 2011. A martial art. A lifestyle. On the surface, karate is not that different than any other activity. There's kicking in soccer, punching in boxing, and fitness in all sports. Uniforms are everywhere from football teams to high schools and black belts can be found at any suit store. So what's up with karate and why is it so different? What is to be lost when you live that way? Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Training in multiple martial arts. A martial art. A lifestyle.

Sensei Says: August 2011
http://crkf.blogspot.com/2011_08_01_archive.html
Sunday, 28 August 2011. Training in multiple martial arts. Each martial arts brings its own take and flavor. They each have things that make them unique and things that make them the same. Most martial artists study one form of practice from the beginning to the end of their martial arts career and so do not venture out into the world of cross-training while others split their time up between so many martial arts that they can never truly master any of them. Sunday, 7 August 2011. On the surface, karate ...
