http://onehoosierteacher.blogspot.com/2013_10_01_archive.html
The Sometimes-Inspired Musings of an Indiana Educator. Wednesday, October 30, 2013. So for Spider Day. Each year, I make these fun creatures with my students. For each spider, you'll need the following:. 1 pipe cleaner for the body. 12 beads for the body. 4 pipe cleaners for the legs (I found animal print pipe cleaners one year at Meijer, and I've never turned back! The kids love them, and they make really cool spiders! Take the pipe cleaner for the body, and string 6 beads onto it. Fold it in half.

Hoosier Teacher: September 2012

The Sometimes-Inspired Musings of an Indiana Educator. Friday, September 28, 2012. And my desk PILED with stuff. Just piled. And, it's the end of the month. You know what that means. Bulletin boards need to be changed, the calendar needs to be changed, and since it's the end of the week, the newsletter needs to be created and emailed out, too. Sigh. I raced around the room for about forty minutes after my kids left today, but it's still chaotic. What do crayfish eat? Can they live outside of water? I don...

The Sometimes-Inspired Musings of an Indiana Educator. Sunday, September 25, 2011. Teacher Made Big Books. Is anyone else obsessed with Big Books? I've only taught 3rd and 5th grades, and I've always been envious of the younger grades who have access to so many awesome big books! I do have one Magic School Bus big book, but most of the others I've found are for preschool/kinder levels. One amazing GLAD strategy is using Teacher-Made Big Books in the classroom. Why? Embed important concepts and vocabulary.

Monday, September 26, 2011. Too Many Anchor Charts! Have you ever looked around your classroom and wondered where in the world you were going to hang another anchor chart? The problem is the skills we teach on those anchor charts can never be put away. They're skills we want out friends to keep using all year long, and sometimes they do need a reminder. That's where my anchor chart binder comes in handy. It keeps my anchor charts available all year long. It starts out with an index in the front, behind t...

One Hoosier's View
Sunday, June 26, 2011. How to build a garden. Outside diameter of the garden is approximately 12 ft x 8 ft. Planting space is approximately 11 ft x 7 ft. We used the cinder blocks (ugly, but functional, and not too noticeable from the house) for cost and expediency. I wanted to get the garden planted and didn’t want to spend time building something from wood. Also didn’t want to use treated lumber. The holes in the blocks are filled with pea-gravel. The pea gravel helps keep the fence posts in place.

The Sometimes-Inspired Musings of an Indiana Educator. Friday, November 11, 2016. Student Moving Away {FREEBIE Memory Book}. When I taught at my old school, it was common for students to move mid-year. Military parents would receive orders mid-year, and off the kids would go! This also meant I had an new students arriving mid-year at times. That left me with the question: Where could I find a memory book that would work for this purpose? Or you can click on the image below. Because it's uncommon in my sc...
