Monday, June 24, 2013. I was in Milwaukee this past week for our District’s annual conference. Just prior to the end of the enriching, inspiring event, something happened…vandalism to several cars in the parking lot. Someone I spoke to commented that they felt violated (theirs was one of the cars with damage.) Wednesday, October 17, 2012. The nature of some of my work is in showing people the difference between helping vs. enabling them. This week I was reminded of a very important component to helping. In this day and age, we are quick to write a check or even give a few dollars to someone on the street. But it isn't always money they need. Prayer Requests and Praises. Monday, November 5, 2012. For Russian class last week, we were able to make some borsch! There are many different ways to make this Ukrainian soup (though Russians really enjoy it). Our language teacher taught us her version of borsch! 1 kilo of meat (I used chopped up pork). 1 carrot- peeled and chopped. 1/2 cabbage- thinly chopped. 5 potatoes- peeled and chopped. 1 onion- peeled and chopped. 1 small beet- -peeled and shredded. 1 T of salt. 1/4 c of ketchup. It is a hit!

Thursday, July 7, 2011. Ed passed away yesterday. Oh, you don’t know Ed. I can’t even say that I really knew Ed. But still, I feel a sadness at his parting. Ed is someone I would visit on Sunday afternoons when he missed the weekly services I hold at a home. The home is for memory care residents, so it’s probably safe to say that Ed didn’t know me either. But each week there was a comfort level that was growing, despite not knowing who I was. I can tell you that Ed liked car races. And Ed loved his sweets.

Wednesday, August 1, 2012. We often talk about being “Christ-like.” Many moan that we’ll never achieve that perfection. But how often do we think about how God has lowered Himself to be seen through us in this dark world? Think about it…. David…a man after God’s own heart…blew it several times. Moses…the most humble of men…messed up and missed out on the Promised Land. Noah…trusted to save the planet…got drunk. Solomon…wisest man ever to live…not smart enough to listen to God’s warnings.
