I was out of the country for most of June (hence no blog for that month) and we hadn’t had much rain when I left – coming through my gate when I returned was a shock – everything in the garden was so ALIVE. Only one of my hops plants flowered and it didn’t smell as wonderful as I had been led to believe it would – hopefully next year the plants will be stronger and more acclimatised and the flowers may be bigger and more highly scented. Rain too! The garden is reveling in it – everything is stiff and plump with water, psychedelically green and putting out new shoots and buds as fast as possible. Definitely a vegetable that thrives on having water on demand, which is what you get in a wicking bed. Lettuces also love this and I am planting them closer and closer and finding they don’t mind – water enough for everyone! The natives are all coming into flower – noticed one of my low growing.
